1299 Base Stalling Problems

Yeh i think something weird is going on... I noticed when the bike and engine are completely cold the throttle response is great off idle but as soon as warm the engine is slow to respond to throttle at idle... A bit like my diesel 4WD; there's a lag. This might be related to stalling too.

This can't be a general problem with ALL 1299's. Mine has never done it in around 2,000 miles of weekend rides, canyon carving and commuting in all sorts of temperatures...

It has to be an issue that is along the lines of a kinked fuel line, an intermittent vacuum issue or similar. It's can't be an inherent issue with the engine components or electronics, or we would all eventually experience it.

If I DID have the issue, I would leave my bike at the dealership and refuse to take it back until the issue was resolved. If MY dealer couldn't fix it, I would take it to another dealer and also file a complaint with Ducati North America.

So,sorry that you are having this issue, because the bike is utterly stellar, overall.

Well it doesn't do it all the time (and if I just LEFT it at the dealer it would just SIT THERE since they cannot fix it either) They simply don't have any answers, They WOULD fix it if they had the answer.. They are a great bunch of guys and always let me come back into the service bay and watch what they are doing etc.. Not your average motorcycle dealer.) I have found their service department to be excellent compared to all the other dealers I have dealt with in the past..

They are getting no codes thrown so they have nothing to go on other than supposition...** They have tired readjusting the throttle body syncs and spent a lot of time on it trying to make me happy..**It did help the low end throttle response somewhat..
BTW.. Just leaving the bike there will accomplish nothing since they are not going to give me my money back and it will just create bad will. They have done all they can and have really tried to help me. Yeah I could be a jerk and leave it there and "sue Ducati" etc. but in the end I STILL would not have a bike to ride and I would STILL have to continue to make payments on it.. It is not a serious problem just annoying and NO it doesn't do it on every bike (evidently it may depend on the climate where you are or a particular circumstance to trigger the stalls..? ) **Mine had gotten better since it has more miles on it. it is less frequent.. Still an AWESOME bike to ride..

Haha. Yesterday I was passing Ferrari 430 Spider, lifted my thump to the guy driving roof down. Of course my bike stalled. Did not notice that immediately, only when my right hand was back on the throttle. At the same time I let go clutch, it woke up with huge BANG on the exhaust. This was funny.

Italians, you can not do anything but love them.

had 2 1199 and always have this issue, it does improve over time, now i have 1299 and same deal, stalls a few times in the beginning and seems to get better

worth noting that i have a contaminated charcoal canister on the '13, and this did lead to poor fueling/stalling, dealer took care of it, and it was fine

Mine stalled once on saturday. Took it for a 200 mile ride to try and break it in, felt like it would have stalled a couple more times but I caught it quick enough and bliped the throttle. Gonna pull the charcoal can...

Awesome bike tho!

Just dropped my bike off at the dealer for the first $300 oil change. It's stalled three times since I bought it new, always with the clutch pulled in.

some of you report it going away after few hundred miles...could be grease between contact plates in the sidestand sensor? I know my CB1000R cuts out intermittently when side stand wasn't fully up...only cuts the engine though not the whole circuit.

I'm right at 1100 miles. It was 95 degrees in Kansas yesterday and on my way home after work, my bike stalled for the first time. Everything cut off briefly, then reset. It fired right back up and didn't do it again. I don't have a clue what would cause it, but I think it's heat related. On the highway, the temp was about 180, but as soon as I get on side roads or stoplights, it soars to the 220s. It doesn't seem to like it that hot at all. It just acts different.

Spine with a friend today and he said the stalling only happened to him with the clutch pulled in but never while using the qs and it seems to be getting better with more mileage.

Odie

Mine does the same thing. **As per my previous posts..
I am all new to the Ducatisti scene so I am just going by what I have read so far.. My 1299 S usually does it while coasting down (or de accelerating down through the gears) coming up to a traffic light or stop sign (sometimes when just sitting there running at the light etc..

*( I have about 1300 miles on it now and it is less frequent..) It may be some issue with the engine suddenly losing vacuum and for some reason the fueling cannot keep up with it momentarily. NO one seems to know ? The dealer cannot figure it out. there are NO codes thrown for their analyzer to adjust etc. Evidently this has been an ongoing problem for a long time with Ducati's Maybe it is the designed in valve overlap (for basically a race motor) and low rpm vacuum issues..?
I NEVER had any issues with all the Jap bikes I had.. Honda CBR 1000 ZX1400 ZX10R etc.. This is my first big twin

We will probably not know for a while until Ducati does something about it.

Someone will probably have their bike stall in the middle of a traffic light and get killed or maimed etc. (Then sue Ducati for a couple of million dollars) and then they will probably get on the stick and have a recall etc.) That is usually what it takes to get manufacturers to pay attention LOL..

Anyone have more updates or issues. My bike has about 2,400 miles on it and I'll to get the random stall once in awhile. But the other day happened too many times for my liking. Twice at stoplights and one in an intersection. Bike came to a halt smack dab in the middle of the intersection. At this point I'm willing to yank the charcoal canister in hopes it will help.

I have a 2017 1299S. The bike was great. No issues. Got it back from it’s break-in service, and it stalled in rush hour traffic, while under load. Coasted off to the shoulder of the hwy and called the dealer. The service writer began yelling at me and telling me I don’t know how to ride a bike, and then hung up. LITERALLY. I will leave the dealer’s name out, because they are an overall good dealer. My first Duc was a 916SPS, and I’ve had every style since, with exception of the 999S. I’ve ridden every bike in the same fashion. The only time I experienced this issue was after having the Termis installed in my 1098, and Ducati hadn’t perfected the ECU mapping.

Anyway, no issues through the 5k mike oil change. Now I’m at 6700mi, and it’s almost like the bike was meant for a sound clip- it runs just long enough to let you hear it. I go for a ride, all is good until you come to the first stop. Once you shut off the bike and turn it back on, doesn’t matter if you’ve gone into a restaurant or just stepped away for a moment, click it into neutral and it goes to sleep. Neutral is also getting harder to find. It seems to want to push back, while pushing from 2nd to N, but then it just clicks into 1st. Ran a couple of tanks of gas through and still stalls. Was leaving s Reataurant yesterday. Started it up, left the parking space, shifted into neutral while approaching a stop sign in the parking lot, and the thing went to sleep; completely stalled. I was hoping to be able to wait until the 7500mi service, but I will be calling the dealer when they open back up this week.

You know what they say about anything Italian, they know how to make thing that look good and go fast, just not last..
