I have been told that the 1299S internals might be different to the 1199S internals?
So my question is,
Has anyone on here had the fortune to look inside both the 1199S and 1299S Ohlins Forks and if Yes, can you confirm if indeed they are different inside or the same ?

Someone else tonight suggested they might just be controlled differently via the software because he said the 1199S forks are controlled by motors in the top caps??

Edit,
Well a quick google and read, ducati say the 1299S is still semi active, as per the 1199S, so me wonders why 2 ducati mechanics tell me 1199s is semi active, but 1299s is fully active and they also noted that they have different part no.'s on there fiche's.

So,
I am beginning to wonder if its just different software setup that's the only difference and the forks internally are exactly the same.????

The Ohlins on the 1199S are not semi active or any sort of active at all. They are simply controlled by the servo motors to adjust rebound and compression per the mode (or adjusted by the rider in a particular mode). Instead of turning a screw driver you selecting a number on the dash for the same result.

The 1299S takes it a step further with the Bosch Inertial Platform and dynamically responds to changing road and riding conditions.

Now that being said are the internals different between the two? I have no idea but even if they were you would not get the benefits of what the 1299S can do by just swapping the internals, that is an entirely different system making the adjustments.

You would be much better off getting the proper internals for your S than trying to swap out from a 1299S. You would be replacing an apple with another apple that is the same...

The forks do have different part numbers, but the caps kit (the cap & motor that turns the adjusters) is the same part number for 1199S and 1299S. So yes, they work the same way and are very likely interchangeable in terms of being plug-n-play, but what you don't know is if the valve stack and range of adjustment is different to any degree. If you can determine that, you'd know what you need to know. FWIW, the fork valve stack in the 1299S is the same as the one in the R1M, so it's not like they're amazingly unique. Similar bike in terms of dimensions and specs, so no need for Ohlins to put different valving in them.

Aside from any potential basic damping changes, the difference in function is primarily as Burncycle noted; the 1299S will change the fork settings within a mode, dynamically on the fly, where the 1199S stays in whatever preset mode you put it in. But it's turning the same motors.

Thanks for info guys. What it is, is a guy offering me straight 1199S forks and 1 straight+1 bent 1299S fork/s and telling me to just swop internal over.
I was hoping that I could get away with just using 1199S forks on the 1299SS,
so saving cost of paying dealer to swop internals from 1299S to 1199S ohlins, plus cost of new seals and oil.
If could done. Would just bought set 1199S off him or elsewhere.
