No its not a race bike, it breaks too many rules. The R is the race bike and the SL is a show bike with expensive parts. You would have to strip all the goodies off it to race unless you had a unlimited budget. The subframe and front frame in carbon would put one over 10k alone.
News flash. Just announced for 2017. 1300 SSL. Ducati does it again with a mind bending, cutting edge 1cc bore increase. In addition the bike features carbomagtiboronokevlar construction, deuterium depleated blinker fluid, genuine Saskatchewan seal skin binding rear sets and a six inch plaque on the quadruple clamp with a photo of Casey Stoners ... on it. Oh and it's super limited to 499 units. 200k. They need a deposit for delivery in, well whenever they get around to finding enough savvy investors to get it started. There probably sold out already. Crap.
