Electrical Burns on my Ducati 848

You can check the stator. Disconnect the connector, put the DVM on resistance on the lowest scale. Get on any two of the 3 stator wires and measure resistance, should be 0.2 to 0.4 OHMs. Check all three wire combinations. Then on each check from each of the wires to ground (on the case is fine). Should show infinite resistance. If both show ok stator is ok then just fix the wires and connector. More likely the regulator is bad then the stator.

Stator to regulator connection is burnt to crisp, could possibly re wire and save but since im doing all this to get it proper i figure might as well do it now while i have some down time and the bike sort of apart (not wuite stator apart but hey) and then that will give me some peace of mind instead of always thinking about which ride that stator will give out. They are about the same as a regulator just a lot of bs to get to it.

If the wires from the stator are intact and still yellow where they pass out of the case, test the stator and if OK repair the wires by stripping off the burnt insulation and then double shrink wrapping. The stator is just a bunch of wound wires. They don't fail by themselves something downstream has to take them out. So an intact used one is as good as a new one. I would change to a MOSFET rectifier. If you want to work on something, pull the valve covers and check the valve clearances. It's important to keep the valves appropriately adjusted or rocker failures eventually follow. And they run and idle better when the valves are set correctly.
