another thing is MY14 1199R had worst 1st gear. it was literally unuse-able because of unpredictable torque surge. but anni has crazy stability on 1st gear. i can actually ride on 1st gear without getting surprised torque surge. also every gear has very linear torque and no hidden power surge which makes the bike so much predictable and stable. improvement from MY14 R to Anni is just nuts. there are a lot more improvement from old R but for now this is the biggest thing i felt.

If we could only get Kevin199 to get one of these, he can give us back to back impressions with his new R. That would be very interesting.

I've found this bike to fuel very well with the Akra's and the upmap. A bit rich below 3000 rpm but that's not a problem as I don't drop below 3000.

Lol, I did have a 1299S for a year. Which is exactly what the 90th is. I also have a friend that just got a 1299S so there is that.

My experience on both has been with the exhaust on them so take that into consideration.
1299S- having had the 1199 for 3 years jumping on this bike was a revelation. The flat slot in the middle was gone, in its place a mountain of torque. The numbness of the front end was absolutely gone, and the hynamic suspension is about perfect. On the street the way the engine generates torque is amazing. Pick your favorite road and that engine just performs. Yet you can still run it hard and it doesn't run out of steam. It's nimble and goes anywhere you want to put it theough a corner.

R- HOLY ....!!!! my first words after riding it. This bike is angry, very very angry. While it doesn't have the mountain of torque the S has it revs fast. You can instantly tell the tune is different and the internals are lighter. It just goes, and it doesn't run out of steam. I had a friend with a '14 R and I let him ride mine. He got off and just had a look of awe. It's not even in the same league. The engine is smoother and faster than you can believe. I thought the 1299S was a master piece, but this bike is just wow.... or does feel lighter than the S out of the box and it tips in unbelievably fast.

Having owned both I personally believe for day to day riding the S is the way to go, the usable torque and the performance it gives is simply amazing. However, I would never get rid of my R, I was lucky enough to ride a SL not to long ago and couldn't believe how close the R was to it. I've got about 5600 miles on my R and love every single one. It's special, you can feel it when you ride it. It's an experience, and it just rips, it's top end is ridiculous. Of we meet up for a ride I'll let you take it for a spin.

Thanks for the review Kevin. Yes I still need an R one day. Maybe another 5 years down the road though. A few years back I decided that I was going to keep all my Ducs from now on unless something drastic happens in life or I get a lemon. I've never had an R yet and that'll have to be my next one. Something about its pure purpose.

Some track laps

I was able to get to the track for WMRRA's last race of the year today. Thankfully the weather improved throughout the day as it had rained all day yesterday.

I had Barry at GP Suspension/KFG Racing give my bike its initial track setup.
I weigh 165, 190 all geared up.

Dynamic mode: Fork, shock, steering damper, all at harder setting.
Fixed mode:
Front comp 12
Front reb 14
Rear comp 8
Rear reb 8
S damper 10

Front preload got an additional 2.5 turns in.
Rear preload stayed at factory setting.

Did 9 laps on Pacific Raceways during the lunch break. I didn't run her hard as I only had 230 miles on her. So trying to keep the rpm's somewhere near the 6000 mark, the straights were boring maxing at 122 mph.

Cornering wise, the bike dropped right in and was stable. Mid turn and exits were also stable at these reduced rpm's I was running. Very easy to change up lines to get around slower riders.
I was experimenting with the quickshifter autoblip into a few of the corners, dropping a gear lower than I needed late into the corner entry. With the EBC set at 2, I'd drop into 2nd gear corners and then drop it into 1st late into my entry to see how upset the chassis would get. Never fased the bike in the least bit. She stayed steady with no hint of the rear even trying to kick out.

Fueling was spot on. Even in the slow 1st gear bus stop the fuel control was smooth in the 195HI setting. Lots of torque. The front easily lifted in the first three gears even though is was short shifting at 6000 rpm with the DWC on level 2.

Cold tire pressure with the Supercorsa SP was 30 front and 28 rear. Coming of the track they had each gained 3 lbs hot. Tires looked real good.

So all in all I had a fun time getting used to this new girl even though I really couldn't get on the throttle to hard. But handling wise she did great. I guess I'll have to wait to really open her up till next season. I tend to behave myself on public roads.

Winter Update

With winter here all I'm able to do is sit patiently and gather some farkles for the bike here and there.
I was able to pick up the DDA+ GPS from Geek for a good price. Gecko is making another run of his awesome turn signal brackets. I'll install both at the same time so I'll only need to remove the fairing upper once.
Phl has the safety wire valve cover, oil drain plug, and S/Ohlins pinch bolts coming along.
No hurry on all this as it's too cold to be in the garage.

However I was able to pick up the DP Race Seat at a good price this weekend and quickly installed it.
I'm only 5'7" with a 30" inseam, so I'm on my tippy toes. The material is stickier than the stock seat so this should help. It sits the front of the seat about an inch or so higher than the original seat.

I've got a few other things to collect this winter like the CRG bar end mirrors and the bar ends to bolt these on. I forget what brand, I'll have to check with Geek as to what those were again. Not the Kylie Racing ones.

So as she sits, I only have 406 miles on her and I'm having to be patient till nicer weather arrives.

Pics from my last ride before I had to park her.

Yeah, she's on a carbon fiber diet, anodizing some things, swapping all the hardware to titanium, changing rearsets and various other parts to aftermarket. Also refitting the Akra header as I realized the dealer didn't apply enough ceramic anti-seize compound. More heat reflective mylar too.

I'm about same inseam and height. I customized DP Race seat to make it lower. I'll post the pic later today.

Sounds like it'll all be worth the downtime when it's done.

Hopefully. Going to California Superbike School in April, so it has to be back together and sorted before then.

Nice! That should be fun. I was hoping to do a track day at Chuckwalla when I'm down in but there's nothing on the schedule there yet for that month. Maybe Thunderhill on my way back up, or Sears Point.

Whichever you choose, post the date. I may end up going same time. I have not scheduled 2017 track days yet...waiting on few more track organizers to post their schedule before planning but my favorite is Thunderhill East.

I live in Monterey.

That does lower it a bit.
I just put in my vacation days for August 5-13. Beginning of week down in Mission Viejo then work my way up. Been to T-hill once. Love that track. Haven't been there since they expanded it.

T hill east is so big, i can really enjoy with panigale. west is smaller and tighter so probably small cc will have more fun in that course.
