2013 1199r and 1199 tri-colore update

So here's the dilemma and I'm happy to have a mix of opinion and facts (proven or heresay).

Due to financial constraints I had to turn down the delivery of the tri in July/August this year.

My deposit is still with the dealer.

Do I now convert my order to an SP/R or just stick with the tri?

Here's my thought process:

I want to retain the electronic shocks - I like the concept and it suits me. It may also be beneficial if taking the missus as pillion. The photos of the R seem to have no electronic shock control. No probs for racing but that's not what I'll be doing.

I like the colors of the tri. Purchase is an emotional thing (it's a Ducati remember). I like the R colors in the photo, but not as much - guess I could wrap it to look like a Tri if I got really precious.

I want to be able to take the missus for a ride - it is likely to be rare (from what she's said so far) but much better I have the option. If the R was a monoposto then I could always buy the tri pillion seat and pegs as a standby (along with the tri color match wrap for rest of bike)

If the new model was more SP than R it is likely to have electronic shocks (maybe?) and maybe pillion ability.

The tri is likely to end its run about the time funds come through. This is not critical but gets thrown into the equation.

This is likely to be my duc sports bike to see me out, so don't mind spending extra (that's if the funds do come through ) if its "special" ... Yes I know I won't be able to ride the tri to its limits let alone the SP/R (I'm a realist) but that doesn't stop each being highly desirable

Over to you all

Long time to wait. I would just get the tri now and start having fun.

If they actually manufacture an R version, which seems that they will, I would wait for the EICMA show when the full specs are available and then decide which one to buy.
I suppose you all remember the 1098R. It wasn't only the extra dispacement that the bike had from 1098/s bikes, the bike was all special starting from the frame and the very special desmo cylinder heads with larger titanium valves, titanium rods, different, very light crank (remember, WSBK rules sais that the V2 race bike must use the standard production rods/crankshaft so the homologated bike is very-very special), the dual injector per cylinder and many many other parts that made the bike special from any "standard" 1098/1198.
This bike, the R version is also going to be the special homologated version for 2013 superbikes... so expect much more that this short intro describes.

Thanks Brad and DimST

I'll keep an eye out for the EICMA news - not long to wait as its mid Nov ....

Good call on thoughts for the R ... And I do love the look of the tri

I'll also keep checking with the bank manager

WOW.... that's awesome!! I'm totally satisfied with my 1199s~

...the same question that you have.... Ducati umbrella girl...

My KTM came with an umbrella girl and trust me, it was a bad thing. all she wanted to do was stand by the bike holding an umbrella. It really got in the way. I tried to take her to dinner but she wasn't interested. Nice to look at but not worth the trouble. try to trade her in for some CFparts.
