I just bought it used with ~800 miles on it. The battery died the other day, I think I may have left the key in the on position, at this point the bike would do nothing but click. The dash wouldn't even come on. I pulled the battery out and recharged it and put it back in. I turned it on and it comes up with E-lock, everything is working - lights horn, turn signals. It will not start or turnover. I have tried both of my keys with the same results. I have not found any way of resetting the system on any of the forums. There is mention of a reset procedure in the owners manual but I cannot find the actual procedure just the reference to it. Any help would be appreciated. I find it hard to believe that every time a battery dies you would have to take it to the dealer to have it reset.

Thank you,

from the owners manual:
Vehicle release through PIN CODE
In case of key acknowledgement system or key malfunction, the dashboard allows the user to enter his/her own PIN code to temporarily restore vehicle operation. If the PIN CODE function is not active, the dashboard does not activate the page for entering the code, but shows the Standard Screen instead, triggers the E-Lock error to inform the user that there is a problem with key reading/acknowledgement and disables the opportunity to enter the Setting MENU. The E-Lock error warning must be active until key-off.

If you dont have the PIN Code established, and e-lock appears on your screen, it looks like you will need a dealer visit to clear it

As you may or may not know....a PIN code should be set by the first owner, or second owner as long as you haven't triggered an e-lock - with a PIN code, it is possible to bypass the e-lock so you can start the bike...but you'd still need a dealer visit to correct the key/ignition trouble issue

Thank you for the reply.

I didn't set the PIN and I don't think PIN has been set because it is locked on the home screen, except it will let me change the Mode(race, etc...). It never asked for a PIN.

What about the code on my key tag? Can that be used to bypass the immobilizer? At the very least I want to save a tow or trailer rental charge.

Try "0000" or call a dealer to find out what Pin comes from the factory.

Nothing is set from the 'factory'. Its a parameter that needs to be set with the first owner (typically at the time of delivery), its not resetting a factory number.

Or the last 4 of the VIN. I know a few dealers did that one too.

Thanks guys, it's not giving me the PIN input screen. When I press the select button it just gives me the MODE screen. It looks like a trip to the local dealer...

On the 1199, the owner does not set the pin. It is already preset. It is the number on the black tag. Don't switch between keys. When you turn the key off after normal operation, only that key will have the correct pin to match what was stored in the ECU at key off. It sounds like you'll need a trip to a dealer.

Difference being, I have both keys I bought the bike with and it worked just fine before the battery died.
