By now Im sure you guys have seen this ridiculous info on what is being done by the AMA this year? Get this folks - ONLY FIVE RACES!!

The 2014 AMA Pro Road Racing schedule is as follows:

1. March 13 - 15 - Daytona International Speedway, Daytona Beach, Fla.
2. May 30 - June 1 - Road America, Elkhart Lake, Wis.
3. June 21 - 22 - Barber Motorsports Park, Birmingham, Ala.*
4. July 19 - 20 - Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Lexington, Ohio*
5. September 13 - 14 - New Jersey Motorsports Park, Millville, N.J.*
* - These events will feature the two-day event schedule

Spoke with Josh Hayes yesterday about this and truth be told the racers are not happy with this crap either. No room for error in any race to win the championship and he best win EVERY race to wrap up another title!!
No Laguna, no VIR, etc makes for a very dull season and then of course we all face the stupid ... issue of TV coverage (or lack of to be honest!)

Anyone interested in meeting up at NJMP send Mark419NY a msg and you can ride down there with him! LMFAO - gotcha Mark! :D

That just blows chunks.

AMA is how I even got into motorcycle racing, then branched out to wsbk and motogp. I can't believe no California races. Very disappointing news. Bad enough I can't watch wsbk on tv anymore and now this ....?

That's just ....... sad! The AMA use to be so robust and produced world champs, now is run like some bush league weekend event.

Mean while in countries with economies reminiscent of WWII devastation, they can produce world class riders and entertainment??

The culture of this sport and industry in the US is decaying. We need to organize it more like how the UK runs BSB, or run it like motocross/supercross series.

Define irony: the number one motorcycle market in the world has the worst racing and coverage, and slowly riders in the world :(

A downward spiral that started many years ago......just hoping it ends soon. That outfit needs to be put out of it's misery

Looks like AMA would demand DMG either put together a reasonable schedule or give up rights to the series.....but I'm sure the didn't have the prescience to forsee anything like this. I imagine it's probably hard to find sponsors for a ........ schedule like this, too. Maybe it's time to let AMA roadracing die and move to something like a USGPRU expansion (though their 2014 schedule is already bigger than AMA's), an AHRMA modetn offshoot, CCS, WERA, or something similar.

Sad.

F#cking sad sh!t. If there was a market for it, then it would flourish. Huge irony that NASCAR carries such a huge fan base. Maybe the AMA should get with the marketing folks at NASCAR and see what they are doing differently. Even MX is on decline....

Can you imagine the Nascar Redneck Olympics joining with AMA? Hell, whatever works right? Those good ol boys take that trash seriously!

The AMA is massively corrupt , they run the Supercross races and payout. Each race sells out its stadium between 40-60k people. Payout?
1st - 12,000
2nd - 6000
3rd - 4250
4th - 3250
5th - 3010
6th - 2780
7th - 2630
8th - 2530
9th - 2480
10th - 2430
11th - 2400
12th - 2380
13th - 2335
14th - 2280
15th - 2255
16th - 2230
17th - 2180
18th - 2180
19th - 2155
20th - 2135
And if you win the whole thing you get a whopping $100k. Not allowed to have a union, no riders benefits. The AMA SUCKS!

MX is actually doing well. For the first time the whole season is going to be aired live on Fox Sports 1 and 2, this is huge for the sport. The reason they are doing this is because the demand is actually getting higher. They found a nice TV spot one Sat nights after football season has finished.

The other thing is, money lures peoples interest. When they hear someone is getting paid a huge about of money for something, they want to know why. The lack of money the AMA brings to the racers is a large reason they are doomed to fail in todays age. I cant wait until they do!

yeah its bawls.. massive bawls.. luckily enough I still have mid ohio to go too...

just fyi if anyone needs a place to stay hit me up im only 35 mins form mid ohio

C'mon guys its based on attendance and sponsorships. . TV coverage is a paid/rented/leased item since the advertising isn't going to drive tv coverage here. If you look at the races here, there just isn't that many people paying to go to the actual races. . . Laguna has a pretty poor turnout for a MotoGP/AMA joint race. . . Not a lot of crowds compounded by residents who don't want you there, along with it being a bit far for Southern California people to drive there, and Monterey/Carmel area being ridiculously expensive for most - just not a good mixture to have a race there that will be well attended. .

VIR - they haven't been there in awhile now. So not sure why you would think they are going back there. The current owners have put their eggs in NJMP so thats going to be the track for AMA between the two - unfortunate as VIR is a better track, but NJMP has a lot more density of riders nearby.

But honestly, look at motogp in Europe. You get huge crowds there. Look at MotoGP and AMA here - like 1/5 the size of the crowds. Theres your answer.
