??? Looks to me like there was a lot of positive comments made regarding the 899, I don't take that as a negative review at all.

on two wheels had it beating the mv but neither wanted to pick either one.

this is not a bad review it came in 4th. Oh only 4 competitors ;) so that would mean last. thats about right ducati is use to coming in last or very close to it. moto gp world superbike etc.... unless stoner rides it:D

The one thing I am confused about is the weight issue..... How can a 899 be the heaviest of the group??? MV's have always been chunky from memory and even their bike is lighter??

Steve, the earlier MVs the inline fours are heavy as boat anchors. This new triple 800 is pretty light and MV's come a long way in construction, so weight is definately improved, now the F4 (drastically in need of updating still weighs a ton, something 50-60 pounds more than the 1199).

MarkNY, it's nice to see you're still enjoying good health and stirring the pot! :D

and yet still consistingly in front of bmw in wsbk well at least until last year anyway, and motogp, oh wait, no bmw isn't in motogp.......never mind......:D

A matter of perspective/styles I suppose.

It seemed to get very positive marks from the reviewers - especially the handling.
The (vaguely) negative remarks about the short gearing and resultant tendency to do excessive amount of up/down shifting along with a few remarks about a sort of vague twitchiness are things that I'd tend to view as positive.
One of the things about my 1199 (and which the reviewers seemed to imply were amplified/heightened in the 899 with it's slightly steeper rake angle) that I like are a tendency to have a quick rush of power above 7k rpm along with an heightened sensitivity (twitchiness?) to steering input - All things characteristic of purpose-built 2-stroke race bikes. It's probably the reason why I've gotten so attached to the 1199 - it reminds me so strongly of the TZ.
The reviewers seemed to imply this was all vaguely undesirable - something I'd see as just the opposite.
A close ratio tranny is the primary reason why I chose a 748 over a 916 all those years ago. It would be a primary consideration in deciding between an 1199 and an 899 if I were shopping today.

Well at least you admit he's annoying...:D

casey was incredible when he was racing, wearing a helmet no one could hear him complain about anything and EVERYTHING.......... but a great rider, quit too early he could've been greater.

Well...Not to totally derail this thread... But I was always a huge Barry Sheen fan...:p

Sounds like a decent review. I can't remember the last time I saw a Ducati sport bike win or come close to winning a comparison in a medium to large group. Yet, they still sell well. They are still drooled over and lusted after. Owners love them, non owners swoon over them and compliment them all the time. On the track, they do well, especially for non professional riders. Overall, there is more to life than winning the comparisons.

Moto GP doesn't count.

It's more about WSBK.

And more so the Super Stock Competition;)

Stoner may be annoying, but so are Whingers and whiners:eek:

i agree with turnone

brad was seeing how long it would take for someone to say moto gp doesnt count cause ducati never comes close to winning and now that in wsbk it doesnt come close to winning so that doesnt count. so now its superstock lol guess what still didnt win

ps when byliss and checa were winning on the 1098r did that count?

and yet Mark(I mean it's well documented how superior you feel the bmw is to ducati and stoner is to rossi), you give bmw pass for being a consistent loser in WSBK until just this past year (how many years failing is that, four?)after throwing how many hundreds of millions at the series to try to win. They don't even contend motogp where no doubt the record would be even more dismal. Not to put too fine a point on it, Ducati, a relatively tiny company was stupid to try and compete with factory teams in motogp and wsbk at the same time, big mistake, and yet still, tho hardly stellar ducati has won 31 motogp races since 2003, and how many wsbk races and championships?.

Definitely not a fanboy, as I couldn't care less about mc racing. I'd rather be riding something myself, not watching someone else ride.

Not true. Bayliss won on a Ducati in MotoGP. Capirossi too.
