The fuel tank looks totally different from the stock one ! Much much thicker and taller , maybe more room for air !

the tank come's in with the subframe ... it allows to have 7 liters of fuel to get more rearwards and lower.. this frees space between the tank and yokes .. tu put the Magnetti marelli stuf ( 3kg) that also gets shifted rearwards... and perhaps yes there will be a couple of litres more air in that box as they do need that... :)

Yes it is bigger, that's to allow for more fuel capacity.
I think it's nicely in excess of 20 litres.
maybe a bit of airbox enlargement is also required;)

brad, i believe the RS13 tank carries 24 liters... its not larger, it moves the weight backwards
the trellies subframe allows that bit of tank to sit in between...
you can see the line from where the tank ends and becomes cover run down..

it was the last and really most important change done last year..

Thanks for the info.

When I was referring to the tank being larger.
I meant larger than a stock standard tank.

That's an example of why Super bikes are largely irrelevant to me.
They're just not anything like the bikes we ride on the street, or can buy at the dealer.
Aside from their basic configuration, and the fact that they have a seat with 2 wheels and an internal combustion engine somewhere in the middle.

I am intrigued by the technology though.

you're right.. but that tank/subframe is Factory only and not available on the RS14... and an RS is not that far insanely from the R ...

Quite right.

However if one had to pay for a mass produced version of that superbike which is road legal in every country in the world.
What would it cost???

The SL comes to mind;)
The SL is much closer to the Super bike in terms of spec, than the R.
Is that a true reflection of the commercial reality???

I do wonder how much an SL would cost to buy if it had a similar sized air box and tank and was produced on the same basis as the R. (as a normal production model)

what the R should take from the SL in my eyes:

the carbon bits
the crankshaft and valves
carbon subframe
the electronics
the akra

and sell for 7K more..
in line with the 1198 Bayliss..

the RS is 140.000 euros - an RS engine is 32K - the MMarelli electronics are 32K
the EVO version is said to cost 100K ( doesn't carry MM but Mitsubishi)

grtz

Those are very big numbers there.

Maybe you're onto something regarding the SL;)
You know, when talking about those sorts of numbers for the RS.
It makes the SL look like pretty good value for a street rideable/legal bike:)

it's what i have been saying all along... looking at THAT total package, that is the most performant bike Ducati has ever Produced..
the desmo may have been more exotic. but most didn't deliver the power promised..90% got stuck at around 175.. it took 25k extra to get to the 200 promised.

a buddy made such a hassle of pointing out the lack of performance he got the kit for free..

And then : no electronics to master that power...

bone stock : it had a hard time beating a 1098R. Even with the 6K race exhaust.

with the SL : It is a panogale but most fail to see the coming together of a string of seemingly small things into something utterly special...

all it really needs is a short throttle... :)
must admit they could have offered different paints schemes or an option to personalise... :)

what i would do to it : swap the front and go for the RS SBK pipe and short throttle...

what i'm not sure about : the titanium spring if it's not available in dif strengths..

but let's stick with the thread :)

I'm hearing you.
I've gone on the record here on this forum about the SL's value for money right from the start.
To me it wasn't rocket science.

But there were still knockers that thought it was a rip off:(

What was this thread about again?
:D

+1 on that. Given the tech, the SL is priced value correct. The fact that one can or can not afford such an expense is irrelivent but people need to feel good about not having the newest and latest. Thus the negative SL comments.

I cant have it, but I will at some point. Its flat-out awesome!
