Is the quick shifter on a 2015 1299 base model only for upshifting or can it downshift as well?

It does both up and down.

I thought the same thing. Yet my 2015 only upshifts. Maybe I didnt do it hard enough? Or when I installed the CNC racing reverse shifting rear sets I screwed something up. The bike did have to go back to the dealer 10 months after I installed the rear sets because all parameters wouldnt stay. If I clicked into any mode it would jump back to race mode. The ABS light, and other lights showed errors and the dealer said it had to do with the way I installed the rear sets and played around with the shifter improperly. I will have to look into this now. Great more money to be spent LOL. However I remember going to the dealership to look at the 2016 S1000RR before I bought it. And I spoke to the owner of the dealership and asked him whether the 2015 base 1299 had a quickshifter for up and down. He said no but in 2016 the base 1299 did have it.

Mines 2015. To downshift you must have the throttle closed or else it wont work.
Also make sure under settings the DQS has up and down turned on. U can turn it off, as well as on with up shifts only, maybe this is why your bike only upshifts?

Not trying to beat a dead horse here. Look at your dash. If you see DQS U-D. Then it should shift either up or down. If it does display this and your bike is still not down shifting you either need to close the throttle or you may have a bad shift rod sensor. I am on my 3rd one at the moment. Last one which was an updated part # has not failed. Fingers crossed.

Just saw my thread and forgot about and saw the other replies. Thanks for all the info. I will take a look tomorrow and see what my DQS is set at.

Interesting you say this. When I upshift my throttle isnt closed. But on down shifting the throttle will only work if the throttle is closed yet works with upshifts when the the throttle is open.

From my understanding, you need a wire that changes the polarity to the shifter, pretty much sends the signal in reverse order, I believe I saw it on a YouTube video:

Of course. The whole idea is that you upshift without closing the throttle, and downshift with the throttle closed, anything else doesn't make much sense.

If you are used to changing without a clutch, on upshifts you close the throttle and blip the engine to match revs, on downshifts you do the same. With a quick shift you don't have to close the throttle or blip it, and the ECU blips the throttle on down shifts for you.

Cheers
