I was thinking about upgrading from my 2013 to a 2015.

A good friend of mine just bought this and brought it by my house: Aprilia RSV4 RF

Has anyone had a chance to ride both and if so, what are your impressions?

Don't get me wrong, I love the Ducati brand but could give a hoot about the worthless DNA.

Never mind the $21,999 vs. $33,995 price tag.

How much faster around your
Local track/ home canyon/ Starbucks? :D

Man that's a tough call. I rode last years RSV4 and it was killer if your under 6ft tall. And no word yet if Piaggio/Aprilia fixed the supply chain for parts.

I've ridden the new R and its a completely different feeling bike from our 1199's. It is crazy fast and crazy agile..

Tough call but not a bad one whichever you pick.

The Rsv4 seems to come out on top in the shoot out tests/reviews ..
I would love to get that RSV4 RF as my next bike…

I had to make a choice between the 1299S and the Aprilia RSV4 RF, it was one of the other.

I own a Tuono V4 and absolutely love that engine, so I can imagine the RSV4 RF would just be even better.

All the tests were putting the RF as the best bike.

What scared me away from the RF is the maintenance schedule, probably not something that would affect me, but Aprilia's have a tough resale as it is and having that as a possible negative, down the road, lead me to buy the 1299S.

The Aprilia ECU monitors how hard the bike is ridden and at about 9K miles shuts down the power of the bike until many items are replaced, by a dealer, i.e. pistons, valves, rods, etc.. Although this is mostly for bikes that are raced, I'm not sure how the ECU can determine race versus track days.

Both bikes are gorgeous and super capable and Joe Average (Me) is not going to exploit the bike to a level where I can say advantage Aprilia.

Now between a Ducati 1199R or the RSV4R RF, I'll take the Aprilia home and use my savings to put a full exhaust and TTX on and still have enough change for about 4 years of track days.

Umm, what?

Where did you get that .... from?

They were discussing it on the Aprilia forum. The RF is still 30lbs heavier than the 2015 R. And to be honest, I think I would buy the RR over the RF, get lightweight wheels and upgrade the suspension and you have saved tons of money. The only difference between the RF and the RR is the paint/graphics, wheels and Ohlins suspension.

But the 2016 R might be better than the RSV4 RF..and the 2016 S1000R might be better than both of them, and what about the 2017 All new Ducati and the 2018 all new Yamaha R1... How can one ever have the best bike EVER..and for EVER

15R is significantly lighter, feels it, has tighter centre of gravity, which makes it feel even lighter again, more torque, as a road bike the 15R wins everytime. On track your splitting hairs between the two but on the road especially tighter roads the 15R wins everytime.

Plus you have to be a midget to ride an RSV4. Is the coolest sounding bike around and with race glass the coolest looking bike around too.

I have to disagree. I am 6'2", 215lbs (I am not fat, I carry single digit bodyfat %. I just like to lift weights a lot). And I get along just fine on the RSV4.

I actually find the RSV4 ergos very nice. Much better than the Panigale in all honesty.

I honestly feel the 2 bikes are very similar.

I pick my R up tomorrow and cannot wait.

I put the 2 bikes next to each other and would choose the R every time but primarily because it is a piece of art - absolutely the most amazing looking bike.

Which ever bike you choose will be amazing and would not disappoint

I would say this... Everything feels like a pig compared to the new R. They are all very capable bikes in the right hands... But what they have done with the R internally and to the handling, puts it in a different league... For now. You will be blown away with the changes. If you can ride one before you buy, do it.

I went to look at the S and the R was parked next to it and I never even looked at the S after that the R is just amazing my only gripe is the lights - I live in the highlands and the roads get very dark and LED lights would be nice to have

i have a number of friends with RSV's albeit older 2012/13 which they race and all are looking to offload them and buy the R1.

They say the RSV is a great bike but it's now heavy compared to the competition and down on power.

Guess you've not read the specs on the 2016 RSV4R then.....
