Man that's a tough call. I rode last years RSV4 and it was killer if your under 6ft tall. And no word yet if Piaggio/Aprilia fixed the supply chain for parts.

I've ridden the new R and its a completely different feeling bike from our 1199's. It is crazy fast and crazy agile..

Tough call but not a bad one whichever you pick.

Do you find the Panigale's setup better for taller riders? I'm 6'3" so this is always a concern. Though Chaotic shows us he can ride the RSV4 well even being 6'2"

I'm 6'0 and have no issues with the ergos. My 2010 RSV4 may be heavier and down on power but I can still pass my buddy on his 2013 R. More than enough power for me and it handles like a dream with lots of corner exit speed that gives me the jump to pass down the front straight.

I personally found the Pani better for my height 6ft .5 inch. But if I was racing them I would think the Ape would be a bit easier to man handle as it is a smaller ergo bike. More compact.

I have to disagree. While the RSV4 is compact, it isn't as compact as the Panigale...and it is much heavier.

I set a PB at Jennings on the RSV4 (1:16) and good lord if felt like I was wrestling a bear. I was worn out. It is so damn heavy. I couldn't have kept that pace for race distance.

That's a really quick time. Good job

I wonder what kind of lap times I'm putting down now, with a full season of racing under my belt. I'm much faster than I was and my best was a 1:20 which I did last Oct/Nov.

Thanks.

I can say there is a huge difference between every second under about 1:22 or so. And under 1:20, that same difference is felt in every half second. And to be honest, under those circumstances (that RSV4, that setup, etc) there is no way I could have maintained that pace for race distance.

It was during one of our schools and Jason and I was playing around while the students were taking a break. He had been helping me at Jennings several times over the years and showed me several tricks I would have never learned on my own. So while the students were taking a break, I went into the pits, poured in some MR12 and put on a fresh set of tires for the sole purpose of trying to set a personal-best. I took the out lap to scrub the tires, then followed JD for another lap, then he let me by and I got after it.

But after that lap, I was burnt. That bike is so heavy and my arms felt like Jello. It is so much work getting that thing through the back section.

I had the TC off and the bike never truly felt hooked up the whole lap, the back end was loose and moving the whole time. Jason said I laid a black line from the exit of T2 almost all the way to the entrance of T3.

And im not going to lie, I was on the limit. I was carrying full throttle through places I hadn't before, and it seemed like I was about to lose the front in every corner. Somebody else maybe could have went faster, but under those circumstances, with that bike and setup, I honestly don't think I could have went another 0.2sec faster.

Great story,

WE had a closed track there a couple of years ago that we shared with the EBR team for their Winter testing and every hour or so Pegram would come out and do some testing on his new setup and blast past us. It was pretty special to see especially when you are on the limit and someone comes flying past you doing sub 1.15's like you are standing still.
