Hello,

I've got an offer from a dealer for a brand new Panigale S from 2015 (coming in a week) or for a lower price than the S I could get the 2014 R version. About 2k less. Both with zero miles of course.

I was wondering what fellow members here would advise. I personally don't think that the new electronic or 100 added CC is that important to me. Additionally the R-version comes loaded with great updates already.

Bottom line, both are great.

Thoughts?

Mostly track I'd say the 2014 R. Mostly street I'd say the 2015 S.

That said I'm buying a 2015 R and will be mostly riding it on the street. So I don't necessarily listen to my own advice:D I actually considered going with a 2014 R just because of the $10K price difference on the leftover 2014 bikes but I decided that I really wanted the updated electronics so if I only had $25K to spend I'd buy the 2015 S.

You're confused about paying $25,000 for a used bike that is marginally "better"
In some ways versus a brand new bike that will have a full factory warranty, zero miles, up and down shift blipper, more power, loads more torque, and similar weight?

Even with the 2014 having included exhaust and DDA I still have to side with the S.

Additionally the suspension on the 2015 is totally revamped and will be better than the 2014.

I do not see where the question is.

Buy new.

And be sure you're not paying MSRP PLEASE. I know several dealers that will give at least $1250 off MSRP of a 2015 S.

Best of luck.

I read the OP and I am thinking both bikes are brand new.... No??

Both bikes are new.
If you are going to track it, I'd jump on the 2014 R.
If you are 75% or more road, I'd go for the 2015 S.

The '14 R is an amazing bike. My R has 7000 miles on it and I sware it just keeps getting faster and faster. The decision would be easy for me. I was offered a good trade toward the '15 R and just cant justify it.

What are you going to use the bike for???

I'd say 50:50, I ride for daily use the Monster mainly. Better aero for crusing. But then again it depends on the mood of the day :) Here in Florida weather is good and we have a few times of a month track days.

Yes both bikes are brand new. The reason I was asking were the new electronics. Also the bikes are re-done every two years and I was thinking that Audi placed more new tech in the bike.

Not to say that's a must. However spending that much, why not go for the updated model. The reviews on youtube are quite amazing I must say. I am exited to test drive the new version for myself.

Maybe I let my guts decide once I compare them when the S is in.

Awesome :)

Being as you said 50/50 track to street riding I'd go 1299S over the R. But being as its 50/50 why not look at the 1299 base model?

I am curious why people say for track use to definitely get the R.

What limitations/shortcomings do you see the S having to the R for the typical track day guy/club racer?

Why do you think the average person would be faster on the R?

I doubt people's suggestions are based on how fast someone would be on an s vs r. I'm certain it's based on the r having better lighter internals n can handle the beating better than an s. That would just be my guess though.

If you're going to the track get the R. If you're using it on the street "F*ck 'em" get the R anyways!!!.............

:D

Up until the Panigale, ownership of an R was a bit of a special club, with limited numbers available. Whether it would make you quicker or not is anyone's guess as most folk couldnt use 90% of the full bike potential anyways.
I have had several R models in the past as I have been lucky enough to afford them and I liked that little bit of exclusivity.
With the pani, I chose the R for basically the same reasons. It will see the track a couple of times a year maybe, but main track duties will be with my 1098R. The rest of the time, the pani will be my street bike and commuter. Why that instead of an S? Because it makes me grin from ear to ear when I open the garage each day and see it sitting there.
Sure the S has a lot more bells and whistles with the suspension tech, and would probably suit my needs better. But its not an R and for me, that wouldnt stir the soul as much.

R every time if you can justify the costs.
