What’s up guys, I’m pretty sure there are a few threads on this and I’ve gone through a few pages looking for a discussion, but this new search (well new to me) doesn’t let you search for short terms i.e v4 versus v4s... So I figured I just ask again..

I did find a few topics about use case, whether you will be on track versus street, buying a base and swapping the suspensions etc. and if I’m being honest with myself; I say that i’d do those things but I probably will not.. I will add a few aesthetic mods, filter, exhaust etc.

So Im trying to get into the V4 platform from my 1299s and my dealer has a 2018 with barely 100 miles on it for sale, the price however is $21,995 which is as we know the price of the 2020 V4 Base.. So the question is should I opt for the older model S or the brand new 2020 base.. Personally I love the new look, and if i had the budget to Just get a 2020 V4s I would but the question remains.. The extra S goodies seem too good to pass on, but the 2020 is so sexy.. As far as my riding goes I’m about 60% street 40% track..

Just looking for maybe a different perspective on the decision from someone other than my non Ducati owning friends who just reply get the newest one... Thanks in advance

I went through this with my 1199S as I was jumping from an 848. My main argument is that yes, you can get all aftermarket goodies for slightly less than the price out the door for the S or even R model. The problem is that resale and or trade-in value perhaps will not be as strong, certainly if the bike gets wrecked by another vehicle; you will have a tough time recouping the parts upgraded that were damaged.

So my logic is that by getting the model with the goodies you like that are already installed, is a better route to go. Again, understanding that if you went for example, aftermarket FRGT forks and triples, and forged wheels, might be less than you are paying for the S model.

I went from a 2018 V4S to a 2020 because my outgoing bike was totaled and the new 2020 V4S is better to a degree. I personally wouldn't have gotten an S if I was some hammerhead hardcore racer and was going to swap out everything anyway due to racing needs and or damage from crashing at the track.

Point of fact: the insurance company wanted to only give me $24, 411.00 for a 1 year old V4S with less that 2500 miles, and over $1500 worth of upgrades. You go and wad a base with all kinds of goodies on her, you can kiss all that money goodbye.Obviously, we don't plan on a bike getting totaled everyday, but those are the realities. If I would have had a base, I would have been given an offer of less than 19K for the same bike.

I would suggest you get the V4S regardless of year, and the forged rims and other differences do set the models apart for sure.

Happy Shopping!

Big difference bc ur 1199S had full led headlights (must have) and the base did not. I agree with everything JHT highlighted

I’ll be picking up a base 2020 V4 soon. My buddy is a dealer for all sorts of aftermarket manufacturers and will hook me up with deals. He’s probably extend deals to you too if we tell him you’re my friend

can’t justify the $6k+ premium for the S model and especially am not coming up with $7k for them to install full Akra so Vandemon it is or more likely have @Phl modify the factory exhaust and put the Brenntuning flash on her along with Ducabike clear clutch and beauty pieces

thank you, appreciate the perspective actually had my 899 totaled and you’re right they just gave me what kbb suggested never thought about that..good point..

would love to get the 2020 S but I also have to get a new car soon.

I got the 1299 base, added Akra and forged wheels, totally happy with it but am planning on a new Ohlins and forks as I am keeping it when i get a V4. Not into bling at all, but I'll probably get thenV4 S because we dont have roads here, we have goat tracks and DES is a plus. If I was tracking it most of the time and was actually good enough to appreciate the differences in gear Id get the base and upgrade the usual -Akra, BST's 520 setup, shock, forks battery etc that you would do on an S anyway because as I understand it you can get better wheels, shocks and forks than the standard S and save a bit on the upgrades. Dont kid yourself, that basic list will be north of 12k so your not actually saving on the base :)

I have a different philosophy on recovering money from bikes, whatever you spend is gone and anything you get back is a bonus. That said I never borrow money for toys disposable cash only.

No C8 Corvette??
ah decisions.. I already have the Model S and its by far the best car i've ever had. My previous car was the C7 and the new C8 looks absolutely gorgeous.. I heard they are going to come out with a hybrid version so I might wait and see how that pans out.
