So today I went out to start my V2 which has less than 500 miles currently. When I bought it they had the full exhaust installed. No issues for So after starting again it was fine but after temp showed I put it in gear and when to move but she started to idle very oddly and died. Hard time getting it started again but started, so I let it idle for a bit and as soon I reved it about 3-4K it began to sputter again and die. Once again got it started decided to take her out for a quick ride and no issues while out but again lots of backfiring while reving which it has never has done before. Okay so the issue is it seems to be sputtering and dying while at idle. The odd new symptom is major backfiring when reved to 3K roughly and randomly sputtering at idle. Any info, knowledge or ideas of what it is or if it’s an issue I should be concerned about?? Any help is really appreciated, thank you in advance.

Most likely a MAP sensor gone bad pretty common failure. I keep a box full of spares as they do go bad frequently.

With only 500 miles on the bike isn’t it still under warranty? Not sure how the full exhaust would fit into the equation but if it truly is the MAP, that shouldn’t be a factor and the repair should covered by Ducati. Worth a try ringing up your dealer and seeing what they say.

Yes it’s still under warranty but I live over an hour away from any dealer and work is quite crazy. Figure a simple fix I would handle myself. I my still do that.

I never checked the part number for V4 but most likely same for 99, V2 and V4.

I think they're different for the V4. Different part number and different physical configuration it seems. I was looking for some and the V4 version is virtually nonexistent on ebay.

Sounds like the bike was running ok for a few hundred miles and then this issue happened all of the sudden?

Could check:
  • Battery/charging system
  • Charcoal canister
  • Make sure all breathers and lines connected correctly since the tank was disconnected and probably a bunch of connectors
  • Check wiring if something got moved and either touched the new exhaust or shifted and rubbed against anything and shorted
To avoid having to trailer, use either Ducati Roadside Assistance (which you get with warranty) or your insurance.

Had the exact same issue with mine (2021 V2), Mine is completely stock and the engine light came on and I had the same issue where the bike rode fine but would stall at idle. Had it towed to the dealer and they investigated and said it was a sensor that failed (sorry I dont remember the name) but essentially measures airflow / fuel for the ECU. - hope that helps ... repair and tow cost were completely covered by Ducati

So yes that’s basically the deal running fine then all of the sudden one day started it up and all was well, after temp showed I gave it a slight rev and it was almost like it was flooding..... It started to putter if you will and died. (No lights or check engine light to this day or that day.) I tried to restart her and it was having a lot of trouble starting, finally got it and same thing but after a few of these repeats it started to run closer to “normal” if you will but lots and I mean lots of backfiring. Giving I have a full Akro system since the day I picked her up from the dealer, it never popped this much. It hasn’t died since but still seems off to me.

Sounds like Mick and Aus nailed it with the MAP sensor failing. Dealer should warranty that no problem despite the full exhaust. Sucks that you’d have to take it to the dealer but just have a tow company pick it up and deliver it using your warranty roadside assistance. Just make sure it’s either a flat bed or they specialize in moto transport. A proper dealer will also trailer it back to you considering they’re putting you through this trouble.

I had a pretty good dealer in the past and they never offered to take the bike to my house. I think that's a tad on the you gotta be in a rich area or have a really really awesome dealer territory. Mine had no issue giving me loaner bikes to use for a few days, which is great.

Worst case scenario, rent a uhaul cargo van and take it that way. Everyone always goes for trucks, which are way harder to load. Bikes fit in the back of the cargo vans just fine.
