Someone had told me that V4-based Panigale bikes, post '20 or '21, have the feature of the two rear cylinders deactivating when the bike is at idle. I was wondering if this is true of the V4R model too (specifically '23 and '24 model years)?

Thanks.

I would assume so, it's an emissions thing once the bike gets to temp

The cylinder deactivation is one bank of the front/rear cylinders not firing. Idles like a V2

I don't know for the v4r. But the v4/s does have it. When and if you install the ducati akrapovic exhaust with the tune comes together then the this feature is deactivated.

Incorrect, my V4S with the full Akra and the racing Evo Factory Tune still does it.

23 V4S pani with full akra belly exit and Ducati tune file still has it. Weird.

Thanks for all the responses.

I'm leaning towards picking up a '24 V4R, though I still have to decide about the exhaust. I'm not quite sold yet on the visual asthetics of the high mount "wishbone" exhaust; kind of think that a low mount would look better, but there is no low mount exhuast option for this bike (at least not in the Ducati configurator). Besides that, I'm also thinking that even stock, the bike has more than enough power for my needs (I do occasional track days, but don't race).

What do you guys think, would the full high-mount exhaust be worth it?

If you’ve got $9k waiting to burn go for it
Yeah, the exhaust is very expensive, so I'd need to look at what it does for performance. It would be tempting if it adds noticeable low-mid range torque, but less tempting if it only adds more top-end power and nothing else.

You'd definitely notice more torque on 1st through 4th, 5th and 6th are pretty steady on the high end

I also noticed that on the Ducati Configurator, they list the exhaust and also list "DB Killers" separately; does the exhaust not include any "silencing baffles" already in the cans?

Yes, there is small db killers.

There are different db killers which the limit the noise lower. I have them and they do good job

Wait til you take delivery before you make a decision.

I was 100% ready to upgrade it. But, once I took delivery and dropped it into first, my reaction was that it sounded perfectly sonorous to me. After tossing it around and tapping into the RPMs, I parked it and took some time to admire the natural lines. I ultimately decided to sacrifice a little power and keep the purity of the design and while I was convinced I would grab the Akra exhaust as a backup for later for when I get bored with the stock hp, every time I ride it, that thought becomes further and further distant.

Well now it's looking like I may need to keep the stock exhuast and tail. I found out the the FuturisMoto tail tidy (which is the one I planned to purchase), only supports a license plate light with the 90 degree lp bracket; cannot be used with the angled/tucked lp bracket. The dealer told me that the 90 degree bracket is not an option when using the high mount exhaust. Since I want to be able to legally ride the bike on roads at night as well, I would need to find a tail tidy that would still keep the bike legal at night, or I'll just leave the stock exhaust and tail.

Get the fulcrume tail tidy. It supports both and looks better imo
