Hi All , Has anyone run 40 / 15 gearing . Just wondering if it fits and there is room for adjustment with the std length chain. It ends up 12mmlonger than stock.

It’l fit but will change your geometry so you might have to account for that.

Also, that setup makes the bike very peaky/twitchy on throttle control. Harder to ride smoothly

Really - down 15/40 is really peaky? Isn’t stock 16/41?

I thought people are gearing lower than 15/40 (15/42 or 15/43) without issue.

You can, I just found the bike to get really twitchy on the throttle with that gearing, fine for street riding, but much harder to smoothly modulate throttle an operate at that threshold of traction while accelerating of an apex at the track.

I'm at 15/44 on my race bike 🤷‍♂️

Works pretty good at most circuits I attend.

Obviously, check your ride height and wheelbase, before and after making changes.

Wow, the bike accelerates so hard at 16/41 - I can’t imagine 15/44. How do you keep the front end on the ground?

The R is a bit less torquey so you can get away with a bit more aggressive gearing.

Mine has a Woolich tune that open up the mid range torque and power a bit

Also for sure rider skill comes into play, when it was too peaky for me I was chopping the throttle mid-corner, now that I’m a bit smoother shorter gearing might be less problematic for me.

Also if I understand correctly alot of the UK tracks are shorter and tighter, so lower overall speed, so you’d need a shorter final drive to stay in the power band in the right gears, especially on an R

I think I'm running 15/45 on the V4R, def 15/44 on my 22 base.

And I've just fitted the JetPrime quick action throttle, it's brilliant 👌

I'm in Spain atm testing, at a circuit called Cartagena. Pretty good circuit, very twisty.

A good advantage of 15/44, is I don't need to use first gear, so avoid having to go past neutral (which sometimes catches you out).

I also try to get acceleration out of slower corners done whilst lent over, on the edge of the tyre. This helps reduce wheelie. Reducing rear ride height also helps with corner exit and wheelie reduction.

But, it's definitely worth getting the Sitta quick change sprocket carrier, and trying different gearing out, to find what suits you.

@RickD996 any advice on shock length?

I feel like the rear is too high on my bike.

Will lowering the rear not affect the bike's ability to turn?

My forks are flush with the triples.

Thanks

What tires are you running Rick?

Shock length is a bit meaningless, as the hub effects ride height 😢

But, atm I'm running 306mm shock length.

The measurement from the under tail Fairing bolt, to top of the axle is 550mm. This is with the bike on paddock stands. If I chuck it on peg stands, I'll send that measurement.

Rick, what is the Dunlop MS2 compound. Here at track they sell Dunlop Medium, Soft, extra soft and super soft
