I have read a few posts on this, sorry if repeated but i don't think so!, however speaking to my local dealer the "Map n sprocket UK kit" is not out till " March " at best and if you go up to 41 teeth on the rear a longer chian will be required, longer by 1 link !!

Surely you can keep the std chain for the sake of one link.?

They also said a 41 tooth rear will need a specific map to deal with the change to traction control.?..it is a specific 41 tooth map !

really..?..all this for 2 teeth change on the rear ! is it really gonna make that difference...

can i just not fit a 41 tooth myself and be done with it ! yes ride height might change a little, but is the effect on TC and RH really gonna be noticable.!

thoughts please.....

Firstly I believe its 2 links and yes its required as trying to use the original chain will pretty much max out the eccentric adjustment of the rear hub and will probably cause interference with the swing arm..
The map isn't anything we don't already have.. there is no "41T" map as such.. Ride height/bike length are affected but to such a small extent its irrelevant ..Do not see how DTC would be affected at all by this......

UK dealer deffo said there is a "41 " tooth map as well as the KIT and would deffo be required for TC....

He said this is not to be confused with the std map upgrade recently released.......

Hmmmm..might just leave as std lol............

thanks for the reply STW.

Chains, etc

Good questions here but a lot of this is contained within other threads on here. For instance, regarding the length of the standard OEM chain is not sufficient enough to even accomodate even ONE extra tooth to the rear sprocket, let alone two. (Which is exactly what I moved up to and ran into this problem) as noted within my thread below.

http://ducati1199.com/mechanical-technical/3370-big-picture-sprocket-changes.html

The issue involving having a map that enables you to run a 41 tooth sprocket is a misnomer. It is simply the most current "update" Ducati released for differed low n mid range performance. Perhaps I did not use the correct verbiage on this but there is NOT any specific software that "allows" one to use a larger rear sprocket.

Now, when it comes to those switching to a 520 pitch chain I have nothing to contribute since I stayed w the 525 and retained my stock front sprocket as well. Dont overthink all this stuff folks. Its rather simple and unfortunately can rack up a few extra purchases for you in long run. However, what do you think Ducati is doing to you by offerering a "discount" on a new bigger rear sprocket? Classic upsell my friends, so invest some time and research what components are just right for you.

Thanks Gunny

In summary ! buy a 41 tooth rear sprocket, a longer chain by 2 links and fit myself ! new map will be installed at service end of march.. ( of course if i want to lol )

idea on chain lenght..?

thanks

Obtaining one in 110 links and allowing tech to properly cut it to proper length is best advice. If you ever want connections for any of these items feel free to PM me. I also have some things in the works with a prominent company.
Hope it all helped. Btw you should DEF have them do the update during your service! No question.

only the old ! are " termis slips " worth it lol.....

:p

Not sure what I can do for you over in UK but willing to research. Send me a PM on everything you're looking for and ill get you some prices. Its unreal how much you guys spend on parts etc over there! Robbery!

my question is why are all u guys wanting to go 41 in the rear and buy a new chain instead of just buying a $35 14T front sprocket and using the stock chain?

They're all trying to copy Ducati's new offer that was announced along with the new heat shield. They will provide a 41 tooth at a discount to give the Pani better midrange. I went 14T and am very happy :)

Maybe I wanted a 520 kit anyway, there is also less wear if you go up instead of down. :) Just sayin'...
