What are you guys figuring, maybe a 50% weight reduction with an ultralight steel countershaft and an aluminum rear sprocket configuration?
New toys.
520 chain and 41 tooth sprocket. Also some Gilles pegs which can be rotated. I am going to lower the pegs to make it a bit more comfortable on longer rides Will change back to the LSL when prepping for the track.
Just did the 41T, 520, quick change, nuts, lightweight everything. The weight difference of the parts is amazing. It's less than 1/2 of the weight. Bike feels more nervous now but I only tested on highway. If I figure how to post a pic, I'll do it next.
I used a Dewalt 1/2 Drive impact gun and it came right off. Had similar issues with my 848 like you describe.
The issue was probably the small compressor. They generally don't have to air flow needed for high torque wrenches or paint sprayers, things like that. The electric ones can be better in that type of roll.
Also try blasting it with a heat gun first. Especially if your bike has some miles on it. Mine came off using nothing more than some heat and a Harbor Freight electric impact.

Shot myself in the foot. OEM front axle nut weighs 13.6g and the new CNC Gr5 Ti one weighs 26.9 grams. The CNC one is a little thicker in places and will be a lot stronger so will use it but just goes to show what little difference between the alloy OEM one and a Ti one.
That aluminum axle nut is probably the lightest piece of large hardware on the bike. Thanks for weighing these. Are you aware of anybody that makes a Ti front axle for the 1199? That would shed some serious unsprung grams!
