899 for 1199

Best of both worlds, 899 Panni because its just awesome and the 14 S1000RR for the power the 1199 had....but everybody Knows the S1000 is way faster than the 1199 anyway? ;)

What makes the 899 easier to ride?

The 1199 is lighter and if you ride it in wet mode should have similar power output as the 899.

1199 wet does have similar power output but its not about power output, its about the power delivery. You can baby the throttle on 899 on any of the modes and it will behave - no bogging and no clutch management needed. On the 1119 if you try to baby the throttle it likes to chug along requiring constant clutch/throttle management.

For the 1199 i find that i need to always go open throttle or the bike will be unhappy.

The 899 has linear power throughout the rev range but very tame, almost like a japanese 600. The 1199 is explosive with massive character and it'll let you know its got the grunt.

You should go demo one. The wet mode on a 1199 has way more torque than the sport mode on the 899 - i havnt try race mode yet to compare since i want to break the bike in before i start ripping her.

That would be a personal problem, with throttle management. I never need to mess with the clutch.

the 1199 loves to be cruised around and it sounds freakin wicked going bat bat bat bat bat bat bat bat doing 40

The 899 and 1199 pull almost as hard and as fast to 100mph

Only in third gear does the HP from the 1199 start walking away from the 899, again over a 100 mph.

I also love the low end torque in third when your in between 70 and 123

Start ripping her now.

Only time I have even needed to get out of sport mode is riding in heavy rain doing 70 ish, and I put it in wet. Just because I was bored.

All in all though, the 1199 is a bike I worked up to after decades of bikes, I knew what I had in my hands the first time I rode it and would never go back to the smaller bikes.

The liter bikes are not for everyone, but don't fool yourself, the 899 is a very potent weapon that a 1199 would not loose a bike length on in the tight stuff. And some people are very comfortable with the power of the larger bike.

It perception.

+1000!!

I also sold my 1199 and bought an 899... the 1199 was just painful to ride every day.

The 1199 will not go 45 without complaining... sputtering and missing and just plain unhappy. Yes you can choke the chicken and piss off all your neighbors as you rip through the neighborhood in 1st gear... but at 2 a.m... that just sucks.

The 1199 specializes in straight boiling your nutsacks... nothing says imma pimp like a sweat stained crotch.

The 1199 hated stop lights... LOOK at the new dork on the 1199 who keeps stalling. Actually the bike just hated to idle an u never knew when the bike would just say screw it, im done running. Oh sure you could sit there and keep revvin it up, but now your THAT guy who desperately wants people to "look at me!!!".... i hate it when yer riding with a group and one dude revs his .... up and now everyone else has to rev their .... up too... but i digress....

The 899 is everything i need out of a bike for every day riding... and she dont talk back to me! I have had absolutely no regrets with the 899.

If the 899 or 959 was out almost 3yrs ago and it looked 100% exact same as the 1199 but just a smaller engine, I wouldn't have gotten an 1199 either. A very very small percentage of riders actually "need" a liter bike. Majority of the talkers on here don't need a liter bike either but just want one to try n hang with their buddies S1K that leaves them in the straights. The little brother bike is more than enough for the street and in some cases even better on the track but I wouldn't give up the SSSA and TFT screen. 2 very big no no's for my taste. For that reason and no other reasons, 1x99 > 899/959.

Ya for me it's not a matter of needing it, it's more of wanting it. I agree, I'm sure the 899 is great, and for me one of the bikes I had the most fun was the r6. Sold my 1199s cuz I had some issues with it and our dealer isn't the greatest so I wanted a break from Ducati for a bit. The r6 was a blast, on the track and making it work to keep up with the big bikes. But than the 1299 came out and I had a itch for torq lol.

My comment on the 899 was more to bust balls. I'm a huge fan of riding a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow. But when you're able to ride a fast bike fast, .... me there is nothing like it of being on the edge. And now I would argue that the 1299 is safer than the 1199 or 899 with the addition of the electronics it comes with. Corner abs, wheelie control, I think a bit more refined traction control.

Just my 2 cents.

for a track bike the 899 is a very hard package to beat especially on tighter circuits, in probably 70% of instances it's a better bike unless you are riding COTA/calabogie etc on a regular basis where in extra BHP comes into it.

it also comes down to the level you ride at unless you are at the top level of expert i also think the 899 is a better bike unless you like to park it in the corners and use the extra oomph to make up for the time you lost on the corners when you hit the straights.

as for the street i don't think the 1199 makes any sense bui i say that for any street bike in excess of 150bhp.

I had never tried a faired bike over 125cc when I bought my 1299. Heck, I wasn't even allowed to try before buying as they thought I couldn't afford it. I love the power delivery, ergonomics and handling characteristics of it! And I'm passing others on the outside though the long sweepers on trackdays. Even with a novice at the controls this bike is just incredibly fast! Lighter than a 600cc, more power than most liter bikes.. And a power range that gives you the opportunity to not be in the right gear 100% of the time and still lift the nose up if you open the throttle enough.

Big Panigale, any day of the week for me..
