Have been looking into this pretty seriously, and have been searching the web to see if anyone's done the 1199 to 899 single sided swingarm swap. (before the comments of "just buy an 1199" they're actually quite different, I want to keep my 899, however with the SSA. (which IMO it should have launched with)

I'm interested to know if they will bolt on, or whether any actual mod will be required ? Whether or not the master cylinder will need to changed, if the ABS will be affect, how it will affect the handling, and whether the narrower rear tire on the 899 can be kept, or if the 1199 wheel needs to go with the 1199 SSA. (lot's of questions...)

Yes. To many to make it worth the time.

It is not worth it.

At this time your best bet is to buy a blown 1199 and then see if you could use your motor to swap out the busted 1199. The reality is that if there was a blown motor it would be fixed under warranty, or be on a wrecked race bike.

And your motor may or may not even be able to make the swap due to mounting bracket locations.

In the for sale section is a gentlemen from Sacramento selling parts cheap you might be able to use for a conversion, again buying a 1199 would be cheaper.

outhouse is correct. I was going to do the conversion myself and it was going to run quite a bit. Just throw performance parts on your 899 if you don't want an 1199. The dssa is not that bad really. I never had a bike with a sssa so it doesn't bother me at all.

I wouldn't do either. It's mainly a bling mod, a very nice bling. But still bling.

I believe the swing arm on the 1199 is longer. You'll lose some of the nimbleness of the 899 in the process.

If you reallly want the sssa and can't afford the 1199 base just go with an evo 848. Still a great bike and you'll have your sssa. seen a few here in fl for sale with low miles and great pricing.

1199 Swing arm is $2500 ish new from Ducati....seems to me to be a total waste of time and effort.... Buy a 1199 or 848 as stated... You are on a hiding to nothing...

Thanks for the feedback guys. Have the 899 already, didn't want the 1199 just to ride it in wet mode for 80 % of the time. If you've ridden the 1199 you'll know it's way more sensitive on the throttle and basically less fun for me having to focus on managing the extra power.
I've found 1199 swingarm's used online for roughly 1,000 complete with hub, brake, mounting parts etc. Not sure if I'd need a new master cylinder or whether I could use the existing one ? How much the handling will be affecting, and more importantly if the parts simply bolt-on or not. I'm sure someone sooner or later will do it, hoping not to be the guinea pig.

I can see the appeal of wanting to mount a SSA to the 899. The 899's handling and power characteristics differentiate it enough from the 1199 to make holding a preference one way or another justified, yet it is lacking the aesthetic appeal of the 1199's SSA. I, for one, would like to see it done. Wishing you good fortune in your modification quest.

The 'managing' of power has zero influence on my extreme level of fun I have on my 1199, as I don't have to manage it.

good luck if you in fact try to do it.

I think you are going to have to be... I do not see anyone else rushing to do this....;)

I can see several places in FL where this would be attempted. As was said earlier, it just doesn't seem feasible for a "reasonable" costs considering Ducati engineered this from the ground up with the DSSA. Since the motor is the mounting point for the swingarm, there are more limitations than on any other bike.

If there is significant demand and 899 sales numbers eclipse 1199 sales, I could see CDT or someone similar coming up with a CF version. You (the OP) should email OPP Racing, they are the kind of distributor that would have a vendor to make this happen. Maybe it would behoove you to offer up your bike as a guinea pig, maybe get it for free for the development work, and plus you're already in Canada.

Thanks Jeff, will take a look. After searching high and low online it looks like I'm the only one crazy enough to attempt it. Spoke to my local dealer this aft, they mentioned the article interviewing Christian Gasparri (lead on 899) where he basically states they used the essay to help differentiate, not for weight savings or financial reasons. Dealer also mentioned the suspension points are the same, but that the bike will now handle more like the 1199 and be slightly less nimble due to the extra length of the sssa. I found a complete 1199 assembly online for under 1,000 thinking I might just give it a shot.

Meantime, if anyone else here's of any success with it, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks again. Will update if / when parts and work start.

You can def do it. i talked with Gregg from greggscustoms.com who makes custom SSSA and he did all leg work to ensure it was possible. You can always goto his website and email him and he will tell you the route you need to go to make it possible.

Oooooh, custom swing arm to keep the shorter wheel base?.... Now you're talking!!

1199 swingarm officially enroute. Had finally confirmed the mounting points are the same including linkage. I'm hoping I can shorten the wheel position by a mil or two to get closer to the 899 original wheelbase. (FYI swingarm cost - was used - 750 for full assembly minus rear wheel) assuming total cost will be a little over a grand. For those with "such a waste of money, should have bought an 1199" comments. Appreciate the constructive criticism (insert sarcasm here) but if I wanted the 1199 I'd have bought it. Pretty confident most of us spend close to this amount on carbon bits, etc which are for the most part due to cosmetic reasons.
Will post some pics when starting. Any other tips or suggestions welcome in the meantime.
