899 Track Bike

No, the 899 doesn't fit in most Middleweight classes, it's considered Heavyweight in CCS so races against Gixxer 750's and similar. Really, it's overkill for a Middleweight, which is why Ducati calls it a "super-Mid". But it makes a great track bike, it's a ton of fun to ride.

Would it be feasible to run it in the 1000cc class? We have a small track with short straights and the 600s run pretty close to the same lap times as the 1000s, although ridden by a good rider the 1000s are faster. The 899 seems to have a a HP advantage on the 600s.

Yes, I think on a tighter track where 600's are competitive with 1000's already, and 899 would be right in the mix. Especially if it's the kind of track where wheelies on corner exits are a problem on the 1000's.

Back to the 899 track bike project, I decided I'm not going to sell this bike, I'm going to strip it down and rebuild it in the most insane manner possible. So I'm selling off pretty much everything on the bike now. I'm looking at some basic engine mods (light crank, rods, etc.) and a whole new chassis setup along with the full Magnetti-Marelli superbike electronics kit. Should be fun!

Geez! I can't keep up with all your builds! Thanks for sharing all this great info on your track builds. I can't wait to see the next one...
