Hey :)

- sometimes it changes engine noise/tone and smoothness, like it changes to feeling like a smooth inline 4 then to a twin and vice versa, often at 30mph in 3rd, is this the running on 2 or 4 cylinders i keep hearing about?
- sometimes it snatches at low rpm's/speed, normal? almost like if the chain was slack (but it isn't afaik, it's not long been serviced).
- it stalled for no reason yesterday right after i started it, it's only ever done this once, i'm not really worried about this tbh. fwiw i'd just filled it with petrol (gas).
- using the QS up a gear is clunky if the revs are low, is this normal?
- the initial bite on the front brake isn't as powerful as i thought it would be, my previous bike was a 400cc twin with front 2 pot calipers which to me seemed to bite harder initially.

My bike is a 2018 Pani V4 with 3800 miles FSH.

YES. When the engine is hot, and you are going slow, to keep from getting too hot, it only fires the forward pistons. It's an in-line-2 at that point.

Down shifting is smooth when you are accelerating. 1-2-3-4...
Up-shifting is smooth when you are decelerating. 6-5-4-3...
If you are coasting Qshifting is clunky.

That all sounds like when someone just gets their bike and isn't riding confidently yet. The bike is made to go very fast with a lot of wind and revs; it all works amazingly well in that situation. If you are just puttering around town in traffic it will not be in an optimal state. It'll work, it'll just get really hot and you may see what you saw. No big deal. You'll get used to it.
Brakes feel? No idea. You've got a lot of computerized electronic assisting going on. Could be something is turned up to high.
I humbly & highly recommend finding a real pro and getting your bike set up, suspension and electronics fit to you, your weight, riding situation & skills. It could be a massive improvement in feel confidence and performance.
You went from a 400CC twin to +200hp V4? HA Ha haa. That's quite a step. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the reply and info, it sounds like my bike is ok, and it makes sense what u say in your reply....apart from "downshifting when accelerating 1-2-3-4", don't you downshift (change to a lower gear is what downshiting means afaik?) when decelerating?

You've got me worked out, I am not totally confident on it yet.

Maybe I will get it setup by a pro, there's a highly rated ducati independent specialist mechanic 20 miles from me, I want him to do services etc so could ask him about setup at the same time.
Yep I've gone from a 49 hp Ninja 400 to this V4 but I have owned several moderately powered sportsbikes in the past i.e. a 1st gen cbr1000rr (120 hp). I get the sense this V4 is on another level, it does scare me a little and i'm glad it does as i respect it.

This bike compared to everything else you’ve owned is like riding an angry fire breathing dragon that’s trying to kill everything around it, it wants to be savage, when you let it it’s incredibly rewarding, if you don’t it has no manners whatsoever lol

lol that description endears the bike to me even more.

6-5-4-3... let off gas.
1-2-3-4... Gas on
Get the Riding Modes set up as well:
Street (set it up for rain/wet at first), Sport, Race - you can get used to it in Street and then try other modes. You won't believe how different it is.
You owe it to yourself to take it to the track. It's an untappable joy otherwise. You don't have to go win any races. Just go where there are no cars and you can go as fast as you want. It's like flight compared to walking.

Thx for the info, the quickshifter is new to me, i was just using the clutch until the other day tbh. I have it in Street mode at the moment, DWC + DTC at 8.
Yeh good call about doing a trackday, i'd definitely be 1 of the slowest riders but like u say it's not about winning races, it'd be great to stretch the bikes legs and to learn about fast(ish) riding legally and safely. I've done a trackday in a car in the past and really enjoyed it.

it is exciting to see someone starting a new journey....and a journey that most of us here started several decades ago...anyways...fun to see
