A lot of SL's for sale recently

I am one of those people who took advantage of all of the 1199SL's coming onto the market as owners sell them as the 1299SL's come in. I was offered a 1299SL but I much prefer the 1199SL for my needs.

I bought one with 62 miles on it and I've been putting miles on it as much as can, at least when I get the chance to take it out for a few hours. I had my pick of no less than 8 1199SLs with less than 70 miles, ranging from one with 4 miles all the way up to 72.

It's a great bike and I'm glad that I picked it up. It's my absolute favorite motorcycle ever.

My home town has 3 SL's. one was exchanged for a 1299 SL ( only had just done it first service) 1x has been put up for sale( only 300kms) but guy wants more than what a 1299SL would have cost you.
Other sits in a lounge. He never even rode it home.

Makes me sad panda to see these bikes just sit and never get used.
I still see early 1199's for sale with only like 3000kms on them. 4 years old and never ridden.

I agree. It kills me to see amazing cars and motorcycles just put away and never used, like some kind of garage trophy. Proper care doesn't just mean cleaning and maintenance but also proper use.

I have put over 300 miles on my SL over 3 rides in the 10 days that I've had it and I'm only limited by my work schedule. I would like to get it to that first service fairly soon. I did change all of the fluids when I took delivery but I still want to get to that break in service soon. A bike like this needs the proper use and heat cycles and revs to break in properly and be a good bike.

I have some nice sports cars and they're all impeccably maintained and cared for but they see regular use. Granted, none are "high miles" per se but when people see them, they think they're sub 1k mile cars because they're so well cared for. I have to tell people that they're better cars for the miles. High strung motorcycles like the 1199 are the same way. They're better motorcycles for the miles.

But I don't know how something like this doesn't get a good 700 to 1k miles a year or so at the very least. It needs it.

Nice bike, I see by your past and present bikes you have an appetite for fine machinery.

Haha. Guilty as charged.

For what it's worth, I had some really nice Ducatis and did a lot of track riding but gave it up some years ago before recently getting back into it. I forgot how much I loved riding great motorcycles and I'm glad to have some amazing machines now.

People should buy something because they're going to get their money's worth of joy out of using it, not to preserve it for the next buyer. The value is in the smiles you get from using it. That's why you bought it, right?

I can't speak to regular panigales when I was looking at SLs, there were a lot available with less than 72 miles, as I said but I found two with just under and just over 1000 miles. To be honest, other than one of the SLs with 4 miles, they were all about the same price. I can't imagine selling an SL at such a loss and never even haven ridden it more than around the block and knowing that you could have put 1000 miles on it and gotten the same money, assuming that money was the consideration for not using it. That's sadness.
