Actual Termi's off the bike!

Does Ducati consider being able to tune your own bike tampering?

As a manufacturer Ducati has to do whatever it can to make sure proprietary software is not compromised. That just makes good business sense, reduces their exposure to fraudulent warranty claims and EPA crack downs. For example If I install an aftermarket ECU with my own tuning map and the motor blows up then why should Ducati pay for that? Right now 90% of the people would just re-install the stock ECU and take it to the dealer wanting warranty.

Don't get me wrong, my race bikes all have Microtec ECU's

I don't know about you guys but I'm getting sick of others telling me what I can or cannot do with something I own and extremely frustrated with the growing trend of control over things we do.

CCTV, digital rights management, throttle by wire (algorithms to interpret our intent and decide how to perform) marketing viruses and tracking software and the list is growing every day.
George Orwell had it right but the end result will be even worse if we passively sit by and let it all happen to us. Soon we'll all be electronically tagged.

Easy to opt out of all that stuff. Just don't buy new!

A little off topic, but as for tracking technology--I welcome more of it for 2 reasons: 1) easier to catch the bad guys and 2) For law-abiding citizens, tracking devices and CCTV provide proof of innocence in the event of being wrongly convicted of a crime. There was a guy down in San Diego I think it was who recently was accused of doing some fairly horrible things to his ex-wife. She had concocted a story and he was looking at life in prison because of it. A surveillance image showing him standing in line at the bank was the difference between him spending the rest of his days being ... ..... in prison and him walking.

If you have a smartphone, you are already digitally tagged.

my point exactly except that it seems to be creeping into every aspect of our lives.

And I don't welcome any form of tracking or monitoring of private citizens no matter the anecdotal individual circumstances.

More control over the populace and less freedom. It is getting out of hand.
The reason I feel that this topic is relevant here is because I link traction control, wheelie control, TBW, locked ECUs and other forms of freedom oppression to this rising issue.
I can tune my own bike and control my own throttle thank you very much.

No One but an authorized Ducati Dealer will be able to reflash the ECU

in accordance with magnuson moss that should be illegal in the US.

MM is a law that allows any shop owner to compete fairly for repair business. Among other things it stipulates that manufacturers cannot build systems that don't allow free access.

You Sir need to re-read your Magnuson-Moss Act

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act passed in 1975 has nothing to do with modifying the settings pre-installed in a vehicle ECU for safe operation by a manufacturer.

Please read the below hot link to help you understand better the MM act

Really starting to sound like you are losing touch with the technology side of things. Maybe a mechanical diesel engine is just what you need???

Just poking at ya BullDog all in good fun :D

I'd love to loose touch with the technology side of these things - the problem is I'm a horsepower junkie and that's where the HP is...
Whadayagonnado?

I agree with you 100% for the record. Sadly, its one of those things you sometimes have to take the good with the bad.

How much louder do you guys think that the termi system will be compared to the stock? Does termi normally tend to be on the loud or quiet side when compared to aftermarket exhaust companies?

In my experience with several bikes equipped with Termis they do tend to be on the loud side.

There are other systems that are louder but but if you compare most of the usual suspects termi finishes in the top two or three loudest.

Compared to stock the difference is significant.

I have a multistrada 1200 and my full term is much too loud. I run it with the baffle in on long runs

Thanks that is what I was hoping to hear! I just wanted to make sure that the full system is worth the money... I like my bikes as loud as possible :D

I ran Termis on my 1198s, which were very loud, though switched to the Ti Akrapovic system as it looked better and sounded deeper, IMHO.

did you have the full system on your 1198? When I would go on group rides with other Ducs I felt that the full system on my Tricolore sounded much better than a 1098 with slip-ons.

I also thought that the Akro slips had a meaner sound than the Termi slips. But I still like the sound of the Termi full system the best.

To me Arrows are just loud and annoying and Leo's are sort-of poofter. :D

The big thing for me is that while some of the other brands are still building old style round and oval cans Termis truly have a style that fits a modern bike.

Nothing wrong the full Termi system, it sounded great. I just "preferred" the sound of the Aks. The Ti is sexy as well.

That being said, I will likely go with Termis on the 1199. With the tightly run exhaust, I would hate to cook my fairing.
