Adjusted Traction Control Setting when running Dunlop Q3s?

I just ordered a set of Dunlop Q3s to replace the OEM rubber (stock size up front, 195/55 out back). I got tired of replacing over-priced tires every 1000 miles of road riding.

For those of you that have done the same, I would value you insights from running these tires in fast, road-riding situations.

Please let us know the adjustments you have made to traction control setting in each of the riding modes.

I adjusted mine down 2 notches on Race and sport..never rode in Wet mode... The light constantly flickers if you don't....

go down 3 notches and work your way back up.. be carefull on the thorttle under full lean... it will step out... if he smaller tires has a wider diametre, it will afffect dtc..

Is this the replacement tire most of you would suggest using? I ride street only, I want a long lasting tire with good performance and reliability.

I got time lol. I let the discussion be battled for a few months then purchase some spares based on facts from others lol.

I run Q3s (190/55) and ride in SportLO (except for occasional Rain mode when streets get wet). No adjustment to TC. Only time I see yellow on the dash is, oddly, a few times just as I slow to a stop at a stop sign/traffic light. Not sure what that's about as it's only happened about half a dozen times in the past 6 months and just flickers occasionally (with speed below 20mph and no throttle - also have EBC set to 2 for Sport and Rain modes).

The dash yellows talk to me constantly when I'm in rain mode and riding @55 or above. But that happened with the Pirellis too so I don't pay it much attention.

Ditto to STW's comments - going down 2 settings is about as close a match as you're going to get with Q3's. I run my TC on 1 in race mode with throttle on 195Hi and 2 in sport mode with throttle on 195Lo. I never saw much point in more than 3 for dry road use on the OEM tires, so factor that in.

ok first off the stock tires are actually 193 mm wide even though they are labeled 200. the dunlop q3 are actually 193.5 mm wide you shouldnt have to adjust at all. the dunlops are labled 190 but they are actually wider than the 200 pirelli . you have a 10mm play to call them what you want

Mark...No arguments there...the numbers you quote are right...But fact remains that my DTC flickers constantly when using Q3's and the same settings as Pirellis.... No idea why and no doubting the Q3 is an awesome tyre...But for me its a fact..:)

Width of the tire has nothing to do with it, it's the rolling circumference of the tire that matters most.

Street/canyon usage, I saw the same intervention with DTC as with the V2s. To be honest, seems a bit over intrusive at times in the mountains. (probably due to the gravel/dirt/etc)

Track usage, very little bit more intervention with DTC. Slow turns and railing it out of the turn had intervention. High speed turns, little to no intervention.

Settings on both conditions were TC 1. (or the lowest setting possible before off)

Overall, love the Q3s for the street and track. I could see that after two track days the tires might become more greasy and DTC intervene more often. Pirelli V2s are the better tire, but for the price, excellent option for the 1199.

Width is irrelevant to the TC functionality. What matters is the diameter, or more specifically, the relative diameters of front to rear tires. You could put 15" wheels on both ends and if their F/R diameter ratios matched the OEM tires then the TC would work the same. The rear Q3 is a bit shorter than the stock tire and the front Q3 is a bit taller; that's the reason the TC is affected. The important diameter points are at the sides of the tire, and even in the same nominal size different makes and models of tires will vary.

What we really need is for Nemesis to release a TC-POD for the Panigale:

TC-Pod for Ducati DTC

Integrates with the OEM TC, but gives full adjustability for tire/wheel changes and lets you make on-the-fly changes without drilling through menus. Me want...

And we agree to disagree. :)

I actually don't really care about the rear. The Pirelli is fine. The Q3 is fine. What I prefer with the Q3s is actually the front. I get better feedback from it (I'm guessing it's due to differences in carcass stiffness) in the dry and especially when it's wet. the Pirelli front in the wet is vague and wanders around too much when there's water on the road. The Q3's feel more planted in the wet/rain.
I also prefer the turn-in characteristics of the Q3s over the Pirellis. And it certainly feels more planted when leaned over and seems to be more road compliant. The Pirelli front seems dead/numb to me (like Michelins). I can't "feel" the road.

I'm currently running the OEM rear (I had a spare when the Q3 on it finally ran out of tread @ 5k miles) along with a Q3 front. Feels good. :)

Thanks everyone.
I agree, the OEM rubber is great; but it is over priced because of the TC of Ducati's insistence on using the SC2s and the TC's calibration to the tire. Until Pirelli sees a drop off in demand for their 200/55, we are unlikely to see a price change.
I'll drop down the TC a couple of levels (less sensitive) on the Q3s and see how it goes.
As it currently stands, I tend to get the TC light coming on when exiting low speed corners.

What's a DUNLOP? Just kidding - I hate the NTEC Slick, so I can only imagine what their DOT tires would be like.

PIRELLI SC2 Slicks!!!!

That's a 200/50, so it's shorter then the stock 200/55 Pirelli..... problem remains! :D

My experience with the Q3's is consistent with STW's. Drop the TC a couple notches and you'll be good to go. Great tire, excellent value.
