Hi guys,

Does anyone have some pictures available on how to install (connect) the AIM lap timer cable to the ECU plug on a V4?

That would be of great help!!!

thanks
Marco

I'm assuming you're asking how to wire the generic, unterminated, CAN cable? Or do you have the OBDII cable?

Return it if you can and get the Ducati specific cable. The Ducati cable comes terminated with the appropriate connector and plugs into the diagnostic port under the seat.

Hi,

what I meant is this, basically there is a Plug and Play kit from AIM which comes with a specific cable to connect the bottom of the SOLO DL 2 lap timer to the ECU port underneath the seat of the V4.

I wanted to know, in order to make the connection, if the side fairing must be completely removed to route and hide the cable or there is any other clever way to do it?

thanks

Gotcha.

Mine is routed with the wiring that goes along the inside of the subframe and under the tank. It comes out up front through a notch ground into the leading edge of the tank cover at the key cylinder.

When I was initially testing the unit/config I just tucked the cable in where the subframe and tank meet then followed the top edge of the side fairing, up to the tank cover, to the center of the bike. Slightly less neat than the under tank routing but less effort and easily taken off the bike if it's a street bike and not a track or race bike. I didn't have to remove anything other than the seat for that setup.

Ok, good to know.

Do you have any pictures of it ,by any chance, so I can see the way it looks?

thanks

Any way we can get some pics? thanks

Sorry guys. I don't have any pictures with the tank off so you can see the cable routing. Best I can do is a picture with everything put back together. You can see where the cable comes out from the tank cover, the notch dremeled into the tank cover, and the BSD mount.

Great - thanks a mill, it seems very tidy though.

Have you guys found any of the extra info with the Ducati to be useful with the DL version? I'm debating between the Aim Solo 2 vs the DL.

I bought a DL and I pretty much don’t use it. I use it for a lap timer and that’s it. Thought I’d use the data logging more but I don’t.

You don't look at gear position overlaid on lap times? I often wonder about the impact of carrying a different gear through the same corner and I ordered a DL 2 with the ducati cable just for that data. to compare two laps side by side where Im running different gears or even different sprockets altogether.

I don't do this today, I just use a 10hz external GPS receiver paired with racechrono on phone.

I have the DL and review the logger data, I find it pretty useful to see where I was making up time between laps and what I was doing differently.

I think it’s worth the extra money.

Unfortunately I don’t. I’m not a fan of the analysis software so I just don’t use it all that often. I would be interested in the gear selection as well as my dead zone between throttle and brake, and vice versa. I may have to give it another go soon….

So back on topic of installing the cable. It’s really easy. The only thing you want to remove is the fairing and seat. Route the cable right along the top of the side frame then right along the inside of the sub frame. It’s really quick and easy. Pictures really won’t help, once you take the fairing and seat off it’s very self explanatory how to route the cable.

I hear you. The aim race render software for windows is a pre-Windows 95 level of amateurness. Its horrific.

Yup that why I don’t use it, I have a low tolerance for .... tech since I work in that industry. I’m quick to turn off an app that isn’t intuitive.

I'm in the same boat as far as looking at the analysis data from my aim DL, not a fan. However, I really like the smartycam's overlays when I watch the video, and its nice having it automatically turn on and off at the preset speed. I had a whole lot of video when the bike was back in the pits when I used a GoPro, lol

I also like the smartycam overlays, the whole system is really convenient for set it and forget it for the weekend. Biggest gripe I have with the smartycam is that the image quality is straight out of 2010.

Pretty much settled on this for the overlay for now, need to line things up a bit better though:
