If they are all saying no about installing it in Cali then just do a road trip to any other state and have it installed there.

I can confirm that the current Akra is indeed banned in California. It is "alleged" that Akra basically told the California emissions team to go "and walk in jerky motions" with regards to their compliance, so in turn California totally banned the exhaust. The financial penalty is insane.

Most dealers will not touch the Akra (for the 1199).

Now with that said, I have heard the "claim" that racing shops will fit the Akra if the bike is transported to and from the shop on a truck with no visible license plate.

They can't ban AR exhaust as we have not attempted to homologate it. It's against the law to stop you using something they have no information on.

Lol - if you like, I can send them all this info from the forum..... :D

It does not work that way in California USA, for "road use" everything is banned that does not have the correct California DOT, emissions, etc - certification stamped on the exhaust in exactly the way in which the state compliance law dictates.

The anti-exhaust modification law went into effect on 1st January 2013.

It is implied that the OP intends for "road use".

As long as the bike was manufactured before 1/1/13 you can put an aftermarket exhaust on it, provided the exhaust was manufactured prior to 1/1/13. And since no manufacturer is required to stamp a date of manufacture, as long as you have a 2012 or prior bike (or a 2013 manufactured in 2012) you'll be able to put an exhaust on your bike. Well, technically it still may be illegal and you can still get a fix-it ticket for being too loud, but you won't be fined according to the rules of the new law, which is as follows:

This bill would make it a crime for a person to park, use, or
operate a motorcycle, registered in the state, that is manufactured
on and after January 1, 2013, or a motorcycle, registered in the
state, with aftermarket exhaust system equipment that is manufactured
on or after January 1, 2013, that does not have the above label, and
would make a violation of this provision punishable by a specified
fine, thereby imposing a state-mandated local program by creating a
new crime.

A violation of this section shall be considered a
mechanical violation and a peace officer shall not stop a motorcycle
solely on a suspicion of a violation of this section. A peace officer
shall cite a violation of this section as a secondary infraction.
(b) A violation of this section is punishable as follows:
(1) For a first conviction, by a fine of not less than fifty
dollars ($50), nor more than one hundred dollars ($100).
(2) For a second or subsequent conviction, by a fine of not less
than one hundred dollars ($100), nor more than two hundred fifty
dollars ($250).
(c) (1) The notice to appear issued or complaint filed for a
violation of this section shall require that the person to whom the
notice to appear is issued, or against whom the complaint is filed,
produce proof of correction pursuant to Section 40150.

Looks like 2012 bikes will be a little more sought-after in CA. Dealers might not do the install, but any independent motorcycle shop will. You're in the Bay Area--hit up Jim at Advanced Cycle, great guy.

Yes - confirmed.

lol please dont say that. just cause they cant get 1 pipe means there laws are softer then ours

A regime that makes dealers afraid to have vans with license plates on delivering bikes, individual pipes having a ban order against them etc that's harsh. (Unless I misread that bit). Anyway off the cuff comment, why wouldn't I say that? Really fed up of people telling other people what they should and shouldn't say

Thanks Ill call him and see what they can do.
Im glad my bike is a 2012 if the law you posted is correct

Speaking of strange laws, brush bars are illegal in the UK. I was ordering a new one for my Land Rover, and I had to prove it was a US bound vehicle for them to sell it to me.
