Yes; prices are very high compared to other stuff and I don't like the "Ducati tax" either; however, there are some things to consider:
That said, I have no desire to purchase Ducati Performance Accessories, since, on top of everything else, they are allocating significant value (margin for them) to the brand.
- If you are quoting CDN$, remember the CDN$ is in the toilet (US$0.71) and likely to get worse as the price of oil drops; and,
- Fixed costs like R&D and capital costs have to be returned with a fair profit and if there are not that many bikes sold, then compenent manufacturers for a given model have to price so that they get a return from their expected sales, which are likely to be very few for bikes like the Panigale
