Akrapovic Exhaust..

I'm a fan of the sound on a crossplane R1 as well. Bad ass sound but so is the Aprilia on a Austin Racing exhaust too. May not be top notch quality based on the experience some have had with it on our platform but damn does it sound sexy on a RSV4.

They sound very similar. Basically, the Crossplane R1 was designed to make an inline-4 fire like a V4. Seems to work well in MotoGP...

Did we ever find out if no tune or FmS is required? Didn't that ronin dude not tune his? I'm debating just doing the filter & exhaust.

I emailed akrapovic and they replied no upgrade is necessary. they said It designed to run stock. But adding a high air flow filter and some ecu flashing would definitely make a difference. David at redline has a rexxer ecu map for the akra exhaust.

I've been running the bike for a few weeks now without a tune. I'm probably just going to leave it like that for the time being. Honestly, it runs better than stock.

At least buy a full termi upmap and enjoy double the performance.

Not wasting money on it....probably just going to save the cash until I want to get a tune boy. I can't easily get a term up map in CA anyway, thanks to CARB restrictions.

yea i agree you def need to just go the tune boy route

that crossplane does sound pretty great.

That exhaust sounded great btw. I have heard it on akrapovic website but it doesn't compare hearing it from your video. I'm still trying to figure out whether to go the termi route or akra. Keep in mind I have the baby 899. already own the slip on but not installed. Waiting on bike still.

thanks :) yeah, the sound clip on the site makes the stock exhaust sound nearly identical, which it definitely is not. There are a few 899's running around here but none with the akra yet, so I can't comment on if it sounds much different.

very true. the slip termis sound good on the 899 so I can only guess the akras would be an improvement.

The Akra does sound incredible, but I truly dislike sound clips of ANY exhaust indoors. It completely enhances the boominess and bass of the exhaust. Legit sound clips should only be outside.

Sorry, exhaust-o-audio-phile. I'll work on it.

Well, after getting off the phone with Akrapovic (need 1 additional spring cuz I lost one somewhere during install), this is what they told me about the exhaust and Panigale.

They took an untuned/no upmap full termi Panigale and dyno'd it and then followed it up with the full Akrapovic untuned and the Akrapovic improved the midrange dip and also provided 7whp more than the Termi full. They did in fact say that the system was designed to be a straight install with no need for any sort of tuning. However, if you want to get the max out of the system, then tuning would be necessary but it is NOT required after you install the Akra.

That said, I currently have about 100 miles on my system as of today and it seems to run fine. I haven't really rev'd it higher than maybe 5-6k rpms except for once when I banged through each gear (2-4) and maybe it's all in my head but it does feel like more power. The loss of roughly 11 pounds from stock to Akra as well as about 5.5 pounds off my base wheels to my OZ wheels probably has a lot to do with that but I honestly don't care about its performance benefit. The bike is insanely powerful as is and the midrange definitely seems to have improved over stock. I will probably go the tuneboy route some time this year but for now, I'll more than likely ride around untuned.

& while your at it might as well do a few low & high speed runs..

Trust me you'll get tons of youtube hits

:D

See above response Whenever you have time....

Thanks guys I will be ordering mine soon..

As for the install you guys DIY ??

I did mine myself and bugged the living .... out of gigantor (thanks dude!!!) via text messaging and took a look at Phl's youtube video on how to remove the stock cans. Mine came with outdated directions so it's best you get the updated directions in color online. Much more detailed and more specific steps. I spent a total of probably 8-10 total hours over the course of 3-4 days. To be honest, I could probably knock it out in 5-6 without any distraction but I have a 7yr old and my niece n nephew were also over and they were definitely distracting. There's one bitch bolt (well, nut to be specific) on the front header that is extremely difficult to get access to. Having the right tools is priceless. I don't have a huge variety of tools so it made it much more difficult for me. You also need lots of patience. Can't stress that enough. It's not an easy job for sure but definitely doable. I'm a super noob when it comes to wrenching. I'm the type to pay and have it done vs. doing it myself but I literally just felt like giving it a shot. Glad I did. I made the mistake of tightening everything before I got the cans on and I had to undo every last bolt to loosen everything up again so make sure you don't tighten ANYTHING before you get the cans on lol. I had a lot of trouble getting the left can on due to the kickstand getting in the way but I ended up asking for help and had someone lean the bike over to the right on his legs while I put the kickstand up and managed to slide the can on it and everything worked. Obviously if you have a rear stand, that would make it simple. Expect at least 4 hours of time invested in this. Some have done it within 3-4.
