Hi everyone,

My old girl clicked over 7k yesterday so I'll probably have the service done this winter. I'm not sure I want to pay the dealer to do this because thus far I haven't been impressed by their work especially for $100 an hour. Are there any experts out there that are more reasonable but still provide outstanding work? If so who may that be and what should I expect to pay?

Isn't the 7500 service pretty much just an oil change? You can check brake pads yourself and replace air filter and tighten bolts if needed. The major service is at the 15k mile mark.

Dealer will charge you around 200-250 for the service. They check a bunch of stuff, read possible error codes and such.

I thought the 1299 7500 mile service was a valve check now!? If not i will be extremely excited!!!!

The only other time consuming thing done at the 7500mi service is inspect/change the air filter.

Even with no mechanical skills at all, anyone should be able to at least check the maintenance schedule in their owners manual. If not, be prepared to pay for things like blinker fluid.

I have around 4500 miles on mine. The dealer recommended changing oil more frequently than at 7500 miles. I was considering doing it at 5000, then 10000, then of course at 15000. But maybe I don't need to increase the frequency The oil in the inspection window is no longer blond in color, but by no means is it black. I want to maintain the bike at 100%. But over the long term doing unneeded services would add up in costs.

I have a hunch opinions on this are all over the map. for those who are waiting 7500 miles to change oil, what is your rationale?

You can usually tell when the oil is broken down I can always here it when shifting gears and how smooth its shifts. In the 7,000 miles I've changed it 5 times

At a minimum I change my oil annually no matter the mileage.

Same here, its a simple and cheap thing to do for something so vital.

The blinker fluid i havent attempted yet though, the write ups all say its an 8 hr plus job and you need the fluid protractor diffuser tool which i dont have.

There is no answer here since there are many variables of How HARD you ride i.e. Track? or you ride to Starbucks on Saturdays or somewhere in-between. Even at the track, you can be a A group rider who pushes hard or a B or C group kind of a guy who pushes moderately like me.

Like mentioned above, if it was me, I would do oil change every 6 months or 12 months no matter the mileage.

How do you confirm YOUR variable based on your riding? After you do your own Oil change, you will see the color of oil coming out then you can adjust next time about how often you should do your oil change.

If you want 100% then do your own oil change.
