Alpinestars Tech-Air 7x

I had mine in storage for about a month and the battery went from 100% to 20% while the battery was plugged in.

Given that the battery can be unplugged, I don’t think this is a huge issue but wish the battery connector was more heavy duty and easier to get to.

Mine seems to do the same. Just pulled it out in prep for a track day Monday - battery is 20%.

Interestingly, paired it to the app and got a notification: “4 deployments… needs to be replaced.”

Weird - it’s brand new.

Not quite got all the bugs out then…

I haven’t had any app issues, and I wouldn’t consider the battery being used in storage a problem since you can unplug it for longer storage periods.

I’m more interested in the new suits which will directly fit it that are suppose to drop in the fall.

You can report the deployment issue in the app. I'd encourage you to do so since they can't fix a bug they don't know about or likely won't in the case that it's under reported.

I reported the battery drain thing, on the off chance they'd better develop a software solution to resolve it.

Yep, I did via the send feedback option.

I hope it’s just a status indicator issue and that the airbag would still function correctly. 😅

In your peculiar situation I'd consider removing it and re-adding it in the app, if after recharging it still show 4 deployments.

I thought I had better check mine.

I last used it two weeks ago and it had been charged fully prior to my last four sessions.

It connected immediately and shows 75% battery remaining. I have two symbols showing for available discharges.

I’ll be interested to hear what happens with yours @craig bush

Hey guys, great to read all of the positive feedback, as I've researched airbag vests to death. If you able to answer this question, that would be fantastic:

My current bike is a V4S, and it doesn't go to the track. I'll ride it around town and with groups on the weekends. Will this vest be uncomfortable for my purpose? Meaning, will I experience the extended lower part getting stuck under my bum when sitting more upright or hitting the seat, pushing my jacket up while I'm not laying on the tank or riding in a more upright/sitting position? I like this vest more than the Tech-Air 5 due to the self serviceability and having more deployments before having to send it in.

Thank you for any insight.

My thoughts, just kind of spit balling here.

I'd add another big strong point of the 7x over the 5 is how much more ventilation it has. The whole thing is basically made out of mesh, the same type as racing suit liner.

I think it also depends on what you wear on the street. If you're wearing a full race suit for weekend rides, 7x. There's suppose to be new suits in fall of 2024 where the 7x will install between the liner and suit. I think the Tech-Air 10 has this ability with the Racing Absolute suit, but that's a $4K suit and more than I'm willing to spend, and the problems with the 10 are also a consideration.

I don't know if I'd put too much weight on serviceability for purely street riding. If were talking about crashes with other vehicles, there's an insurance component to figure in, delays, getting estimates, waiting for parts, service time etc. There's also a lack of run offs on turns. I'm of the opinion that a street crash has to the potential to be much more catastrophic than a typical track crash, ie a low side. I think there's going to be more lost riding time with a street crash, so waiting for an airbag service may not be a huge consideration.

There's not a lot of structure to the portion of the back is below your beltline on the 7x. It's very flexible. I think that extra length could be more of an issue with a cruiser.

If you have the means, you could always check the return policy, order one of each and after you've had them in hand return one and keep the other.

Cheers mate.

How durable is the Tech-Air 7X vest mesh? I’ve received some feedback that the mesh material is a bit light. Yes that adds to the ventilation aspect, but I also heard people are not confident in the material being able to last a long time. I have spoke with Alpine Stars, and if the mesh material tore, you would be responsible for the entire price of a new 7x. While you can wash the liner, Alpine Stars does not have one for purchase or replacement.

That being said, how is everyone’s experience with the quality and durability of the mesh material of the vest? Do you think it will last a while? Cheers.

I’ve got 2 full days at road America and 1 day at gingerman on my 7x so far and it seems fairly durable. Battery life seems really good as well as 1 full day at road America brought it down to 81% for me. Hopefully that helps. Unfortunately I can’t comment on long term durability as I just don’t have enough time with it.

I don’t know if this is a very valid concern. The mesh material is the same as a suit liner to which I haven’t heard of any complaints of durability. If it tore, you could just repair it.
