Alpinestars Tech-Air 7x

Hi There,

4 weeks ago I bought A* TechAir 7x. Since than I'm wearing it and have approx 2000 km in it - it feels comfortable and gives me confidence, while I'm not driving like I was driving when I was in the age of 20s. Out of 4 weeks 2 weeks was my holiday period when the vest was in "sleep" mode. I can confirm the same phenomena what others wrote above - prior I left it I fully charged, after 2 weeks I was able to use it only for 2 hours and it was gone. Interestingly, when I take it on again - per LEDs - it was showing fully charged status, but during my ride I had to take a break and when I reconnected the slaps again it was not even turning on LEDs - it was only 2 hours from the starts. So it drained so quick from "fully charged" to 0 per LED indicators. The reason I say LED indicators instead of % is that since I bought I'm unable to connect via app therefore I cannot see real % of battery...

When download the Techair app and try to sign-up, it continuously gives me "Error Code 39" and I'm simply unable to create an account for myself - I'm in contact with A* via all available email address, chat, even via phone either without feedback or solution:mad: For emails they are not responding, for chat they say usual blabla (reinstall, turn of antivirus etc..etc..) Via phone I got a suggestion to use a pre-paid mobile card because when you register they send a "premium sms" which cost needs to be deducted and it cannot be deducted from the monthly fee subscription mobile card:oops::eek: I bought prepaid card, loaded with 10 EURs still not work. I tried it on 5 different mobilephone including Samsung S23+(own) Samsung A54(own),Xiaomi, Apple 13, Apple 15 max no success. So right now I have a vest for approx 1000 EUR and I cannot connect to it, nor change modes, see battery status etc..etc...the dealer connected to it 1st time and set it to street mode, so at least on street I can use it, but it is soooo frustrating and giving me trust that A*s et all.

Have everyone faced with same issue ? If yes how was it solved?

I can't relate to your app problems at all. Creating an account and connecting to the 7x could not have been easier.

Is there a setting on your device or with your service provider to limit types of sms messages? Can they tell you what error code 39 is?

Error code 39 - per A* is too much attempt. After above post I called A* directly again and was asking for a higher level person to escalate my ticket - finally he said they admit there is a problem with Techair app. He said google server changed the verification processes without informing app developers - you may also receive\recognize nowadays pop-ups from google like "verify you are not a robot" - and this is the reason why since 4 weeks you cannot create new account....he also said they are going to update the Techair app within 1-2 weeks to overcome this verification and it should work after that. Nice....10 EUR + pre-paid card was useless, SMS is not a player here(anyway are you really receiving any SMS during sign-up? ), but this is peanuts compared to the price of the vest:cool: So basically nowadays no-one can create a new account due to this issue, however I'm wondering what is the connection between Google servers and the Iphones I tried it on....all in all I'm not certain I know the real root cause already...

iPhone? Account ? All just to wear a vest that already costs quite a lot of $$

What a stupid company

I would argue with that - to wear the vest you do not need the Iphone/Samsung neither the account. Mine was set to "street mode" by the dealer and since than I'm using it that way. The account is needed for 3 reasons for me:

1. to be able to switch from "street mode" to "track mode" - this is a must you can't do it mechanically on the vest itself.
2. to be able to see more accurately the battery % - this is not a must but a feature. The vest itself communicates this info via built in LEDs, but seems from my experience that the LEDs are showing more optimistic status than the reality (fully drained within 2 hours vs. mine indicated via LEDs that it is full). This is simply frustrating, but can live with it with some preventive actions. However I would rather see it accurately than do preventive actions for battery draining - especially if I'm looking at the price tag of the vest.
3. update the algorithym on the vest - this is must you can't do it without it, unless you bring it back to dealer who does it for you. In my case dealer is 250 km far away from where I'm living...A* incorporate lessons learned into new SW updates to improve the vest algorithym.

All the rest of feature of the account/app is not needed/must for me, while it can be give you some useful info, like tracking your ride - but I can live without this.

When I first received the 7x, back in April. There's only been one update to the app since the 7x was released 4 months ago. I'm also using an iPhone, and have no experience with Google store issues.

I wonder if it's more of a regional thing. Maybe try using a VPN to get on a North American server and try again.

interesting : the app in my Google store says the latest release is 2.3.21 and it was released on 24th of July, 2024 - see attached. I will give a try to VPN to check your suggestion. Thanks for it!

I just high sided going 75mph - my TechAir 10 deployed. Still broke a bunch of .....

I know you have 2 charges/deployments, is everyone sending their's in to get recharged after 1 crash? Or waiting until both cartridges are deployed.

Tech Air 10 uses both cartridges in a deployment as it has more coverage area. You have to send it in to get new cartridges as it is not self-serviceable like the Tech Air 7.

@userSFV4SP2 Sorry to hear you still had some injuries, even with the hip protectors on the 10. Do you think the extra hip protection is worth it over the new features and fit of the 7x?

The 7 has a lot of new features self service is a good one. Yet, I still like the idea of the hip protection. I'm older and bones getting brittle.

Anybody have experience or have a view on the 7 vs the 10 for a first airbag? This is track only use and going to put a custom suit around it.

I’ve used both and prefer the 7. The 10 is quite inconvenient to wear and the 7 has the self-service option. The 10 was also very bad on the app, getting it to charge, etc - maybe they’ve fixed those issues now.

Wearing the airbag and trying to pull a suit over it kind of sucks. I sold my old suit for that reason. I want something I can zip the 7x into.

IIRC, a lot of the 10 problem were due to the belt. I think a system with coverage that could be built into a suit would be the best.

For street, I'd prefer a TA 3, minimum bulk.

Self service of the 7x is nice. Hopefully the spring 2025 releases don't suck. I was kind of meh over the GP-R7.

On the 7x, Alpinestars is replacing the air cylinders. Something about they can crack or damage the housing. The old cylinders are blue at the top. The new ones are red.

This is the email Alpinestars sent.

Had tech air 3 and now new dainese smart airbag much lighter. I would get any deployed airbag tested to ensure the seams remain intact after deployment
Hope u get better soon I am waiting for an airbag that covers the anterior pelvic bones a common area of injury with front end collisions No the mo cycle jeans did not cover that area

Mine had the blue ones but I've received the red ones and they were sent quickly.
