Alternative way for installing front direction indicator

Help Support Ducati Forum:

looks great gecko! what about integrated mirrors ;) next

Hey VAST!
I did not forget you. I just decided to go the easy way for now :)
This project is finished now and I am very happy that I could make some new great friends with it.

I thought that the next project could be a fully customizable gas throttle device (regarding progression, clearance and mounting of aftermarket handles), but I don't think that enough people on the forum would like to have it.

Regarding the mirrors with integrated LEDs I bought the Rizoma solution (veloce), just to take it appart and to see how they solved some problems.

It's not worth to make it for a dozend or so of buyers, I am very sorry :(

Thank you Urs, for fabricating and shipping these mounts. The chocolates were a nice touch appreciated by my bride. I've got all the other parts on order (indicator lights & mirrors). I have a question: Did your friend's 1199 have the optional "flairs" (for lack of a better term) mounted on the outer edges of the faring? I had them installed on mine when the bike was assembled, and am wondering if I ought to get the extensions that Rizoma offers, to push the indicators out a bit wider to clear the fairing "flairs". Your thoughts?

Today was very entertaining and funny: Phil1199 came to my shed and we installed new Rizoma Graffio direction indicators, an evotech tidy tail and the Rizoma spy mirrors on his Panigale.

So I decided to write a very short how-to regarding installation of the front direction indicators:

- remove upper side fairings on left and right side
- remove mickey mouse ears
- remove plastic piece below headlight
- remove nose fairing

These steps have been covered very well in other threads on this great forum.

- remove the plastic piece behind the dashboard: 4 hex screws
- prepare the direction indicator brackets as shown on picture 4 I attached
- install the brackets on the LED headlight heat sinks
- use zip ties to hold together cables and connectors in the nose bay.
- clean all parts!
- check proper function of rear and front direction indicators. If they flicker or the blinking frequency is too high, install the parallel resistors delivered together with the Rizoma LEDs
- assemble all parts together in reverse order. Except the OEM mirrors of course. We installed the DP mirror block-off plates instead. done!

Phil1199's bike (1199 S) is one of the first Panigales delivered to Switzerland in 2012. A great bike with a lot of history. Altough the LED recall has been done, the LED direction indicators did not work at once. We had to install the resistors that came with the blinkers. After that everything was perfect. On my Tri and the SL, resistors were not required. Funny italian electronics...

Thanks again Gecko for your awsome support, dedicated Sunday afternoon (and evening) and enthusiasm with this project! The result looks very clean and I'm very happy with the new look :)

P.s. Please don't take a too close look at the pictures. I apologize for the dirty bike! Project for next Weekend -> cleaning

I assume you mean the "aero winglets"? I chose not to install them, since I read that they might scratch the fairing when being removed. The indicator brackets have some clearance; we actually twisted the mount a little bit in order to tuck the mirrors in slightly. And I think you could actually tuck them out a bit more when twisting the brackets in the other direction. Not sure though whether the clearance is enough to get along with the aero winglets. You'll have to find out yourself ;)

@Phil1199: It was a pleasure! Thank you again for the red wine!!
@2WheelsRBetter: As Phil1199 said, try it. I didn't had the opportunity to mount the brackets on a bike with the aero kit on it. But the SL is a bit wider than the other models, and it looks very good. I wouldn't buy Rizomas extensions, they are very long.
In case you think that the indicators should be extended a bit more on your bike, just let me know how much. I'm happy to turn you two custom aluminium tubes with the proper length you want.

I GOT CHOCOLATES TOO! I must say, I am blown away by the quality.

Gecko on behalf of all of us, THANK YOU. This was truly a great effort on your end & I truly appreciate all the time you put into this on our behalf.

This is one of the many things that makes this hobby/sport, so great & I wanted to advise just how much we all thank you for this.

I am going to the dealer tonight and will have pics this week.

....my eyes are getting misty.....lump in my throat.... :)

Hey Gecko, got mine yesterday, thanks again mate for the huge effort, the chocolates didn't fair so well on the trip down under, looked like the Easter Bunny had been run over by a truck, still very tasty though. Cheers mate, you've always got somewhere to stay if you're ever in Aus.

Cheers
JT

My team at the office loved the chocolates, so consider this a collective thank you from me and my crew :)

I'm not going to start mucking with the bike (blinkers, mirrors, fender eliminator) until riding season is over - just a few more weeks now... =( but I'll post pics once I do.

Well I guess everyone got chocolates...I'm not feeling as special as I once did :(

Hi Urs,
Got my package today and about to share the chocolates with the family. Oh and my special order Titanium brackets look like works of art and so light too.

cheers

Just returned from having the brackets and Kellermanns fitted by Urs (pictures to follow). Originally I was going to document the fitting etc, but due to major dealer issues and my bike being stuck at the dealers for 2 months it was already covered :)

Had great fun with the install, Urs is a top guy - and sure knows his way around the Panigale!

Thanks once again for all your hard work on this project Urs, fantastic end result and was great meeting you!

My milling machine (Mikron F75) is from 1930, and the lathe (Mikron T90) from 1950. So mass production wouldn't make much sense.

If some would like this solution I could let these pieces be produced with CNC machines. Design could be then some additional gramms lighter and more 3d fancy. It's a matter of number of ordered pieces. Of course completely non-profit as all my projects.

Using polished A4 stainless steel screws instead of titanium would make it considerably cheaper.

We need to do this and do a group order. I want the SL ones for my 1299s for April. How many do we need Gecko? Thanks

Hey b9009b
Thank you so much for your interest!
All 13 kits odered have been sold. But the german manufacturer who made them should still have some spare kits on stock. If he didn't sell them directly (I don't think so, they where exclusively for the Ducati1199.com forum) there should be 7 kits left.

There is only one version: It fits all Panigales with LED headlamps (because its mounted on their heat sinks). Brackets are made from black anodized aluminium, screws are hollowed titanium.

I am very happy to organize you one kit. If there would be more guys who are interested, it would get considerably cheaper (custom fees and shipping costs).

Due to the latest events on the financial market Euro became very week against Swiss Francs, so I estimate that costs will be 20% less than the kits of the first batch: I will have to crunch the numbers, but I guess it will be about +/- 190.- USD.
