Just before Christmas my wife and I bought a new Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness. While driving home, I thought that it would be nice if it was a little quieter. So I took it apart and put noise deadenig pads all over the ceiling, floor, doors, and trunk. Then I added Thinsulate. While waiting for more materials, I removed the bumper and installed a hitch. And while the harnesses were exposed, I routed the cables for the dashcams and radar detector.

I never had any interest in working on cars, and the Subaru is my first project. But the way it was put together, I had to use only a Philips screwdriver and 10mm and 12mm sockets. And after working on the Ducati, any car is trivial. Only thing is, being used to smaller tools and smaller parts, I felt more like a plumber than a mechanic :)

Damn dude - you did a great job. I’ve seen many jobs like this, and your results are similar to what I’ve seen turned out by shops.

It’s a shame you didn’t measure interior noise levels before and after - would have been nice to compare your subjective impression of any noise reduction to objective data.

Indeed, the car now feels almost luxurious, and even with the all terrain tires it is very comfy. I have sensitive ears -- at times I hear my wife returning from work before the dog -- and I am glad I did it.
