Any clever ways to lock your helmet to your bike?

Just ordered it!!

I'm glad you ordered it. I had it saved in my browser favorites for months, as they annouced it last summer that it was coming. I thought I'd like it, but another key to carry, and rarely do I leave my helmet on the bike. I just don't find myself in a position where I don't have a safe palce to stow if I can't carry. Especially if it's hot out, I want to take it inside where there is A/C with me. :)

Occasionally, I need to leave my helmet with my bike. The Panigale of course has no built in lock. Anyone have a favorite way to do it? I don't need a real thief-proof system, just something to deter opportunists. Ideally, it would stow away under the seat.

Thinking of using a pistol padlock, but would love to hear what you all use.

EDIT: Tried the pistol padlock and the results rock! I was wondering what I was going to strap the helmet to, having forgotten that we have hollow triple clamps. Best parts: (1) Can't steal by cutting the strap (2) Fits under the seat (3) rubberized strap won't scratch the bike (4) incredibly cheap

This is brilliant, now I have a use for gun lock laying around. Also don't want my corsair v getting deboed. Winning!

I recall earlier this year I went to a KC Royal baseball game (company outing) and wanted to ride my bike. I wasn't sure if I could take my helmet into the stadium but still, I'd rather not carry it around with me while tailgating and during the game. This is the type of stadium that you walk around alot, hang out on the party deck, etc. you don't just stay in your seat. So instead of taking my car, I wore one of my "cheaper" helmets and I locked it to my bike with a cable lock. Which is good because when I first started riding, I may have been tempted to ride without a helmet (where allowed by law); not anymore.

ETA: I don't mind from time to time leaving a helmet locked up for a short period of time in a relatively safe place, but a helmet that I can afford to lose. I have about three helmets that I've owned for more than 5 years and I only wear them about a dozen times and they were less than $75.

me too !

i wasnt in the shop 15 minutes before it was gone

I am with you Marc. I left a helmet on a trailbike while I was with the dealer inside back in the early 70's. I came out and some f wit had cut the strap and left the two D rings locked into the helmet lock on my Honda XL175K1.

Have never left a helmet on a bike since.

No reason to leave it behind. Just another reason for someone to F with your gear.

Yeah but use my clever system and they'd have to be extra stupid to mess with it.

Yes, sadly, I know there are still plenty extra stupid folk waddling about . . . :(

HAHAHAHHAAA your a funny guy!! so are you telling me after a hot/warm day and some miles on the bike, that by leaving the helmet on that style hook, that the heat from the exhaust would not do any sort of damage to your helmet. CAN be anything, meltiing the vinly strips around helmet, burning the pads, etc.

I don't have a pic, but I use same gun lock first poster showed locked to handlebars. Only I lock it up to the rear shock component right behind the yellow shock spring. That way it's out of the way, fairly flush and off the ground. Gun lock is easily stored under seat or in your bag and I have a few of them. Don't lock on the D rings, but actually run the lock cable through thre face opening of full helmet. They would have to destroy the helmet to get it off there and with it locked that way, they don't have a lot of free cable to try to get to.

Last time I left my helmet on my bike in the hot summer, I hung it on my passenger foot pegs and the tip of the peg touched the inside lining of my helmet. The foot peg must have been super hot because when I came back 30 minutes later, a small round indent had melted into the inside shell.

I agree completely. The bike stands WAY out enough. I don't need another reason for ......... to come mess with it when I am unable to watch over her.

I am a funny guy! I never said that, so I have no idea where you got that from. I haven't held my helmet in a position that might emulate where that hook is, so I have no idea how close it would be to exhaust. As I said, I rarely leave my helmet on my bike, and if I do, it is somewhere where I feel safe enough to do so, i.e. where I can see it or in a trusted area.

I dumped the cash on the Tricolore Corsair, I damn near sleep with the thing with a kung fu grip.

F'ing BRILLIANT Luke!!! Now I have a use for one of my many pistols locks that I'd never thought I'd use! PLUS, you show it going through the face of the helmet further reinforcing its security (vs other guys getting his strap cut).

The SATO option wont work for me since I have the fender eliminator and have removing the passenger footpegs.

BRILLIANT I say!!:D

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...as for me, I never leave my helmet on my bike unattended. Meaning, if I have to leave my bike out of sight even for a few minutes...I bring my helmet with me ALWAYS!

I only leave mine if I am close and can see it, or at a trusted place, friends house, etc.

Same here and that includes the workplace for a very short period of time and that's a big IF when it's my best (expensive) helmet. So I think I'm going to get that 1199 helmet lock linked in a previous post....hopefully someone who already has it can review it.
