anybody considering another bike instead of the 1199 for next spring?

I bought a 2012 Indian Dark Horse to pose/ride around town. Plan to sell my Diavel Carbon.

I plan to ride the BMW 1000RR too

The 1199 and the BMW S1000RR are the two bikes I am considering...well also the aprilia rsv4 but no dealer in Orlando so that's not a plus in my book...1 1/2 hr drive to get to a dealer isn't the perfect situation. Anyway the orland ducati dealer is also a BMW (and triumph, which btw look really cool) and I asked them what I had to do to get a test ride and he said I just have to have the means to buy one and be a serious buyer...when he found out I was an engineer I could see the smile come across his face so I guess that means I qualify...lol. Anyway any Ducati guys that have ever driven the big BMW let me know what you thought/think....any input is welcomed.

p.s. I have never driven a ducati of any type.

Word of advice on the RSV4 - I have one and the bike itself has been a total nightmare and a lemon. Their dealers are absolutely horrible (except AF1 out of Texas) and dealing with Piaggio Group/Aprilia as a company is incredibly frustrating.

I have ridden the S1000RR on the track and on the road. The bike is a sweet bike and it has pretty much all the electronics you want. However, I could never set up the suspension the way I liked. The engine is smooth being a straight four and it lacks drama and excitement in my opinion. The build materials are very cheap (as reflected in the price). I personally do not like the look of the bike.

I have ridden a few Ducatis, and a huge difference is the build quality the suspension and the L-Twin has quite a lot of torque. Much easier to get around town and then open it open on the back roads. If you like riding, I think you will be much happier with a Ducati than the BMW.

Wow 512BB...thanx for the input...the BMW/Ducati sales person told my the aprilia infrastructure just wasn't up to snuff but I have heard nothing about the scooters themselves having build issues...what kind of problems have you had with yours? Electrical or engine? Regardless many thanks for your input...I think I am at the point that I'm about to just put a deposit down on an 1199...standard or S...I think with my really light weight and riding prowess I'll be able to beat anything, anywhere on a standard....141 lbs...soaking wet...lol

Haven't had experience with their scooters (Aprilia or Vespa) but basically the new RSV4 has been a disaster and Piaggio group (who owns both Aprilia and Vespa) has been a nightmare to deal with.

I believe they sold about 200 RSV4's in the US in since 2009 and through the grapevine I hear that at least 12 are in late stages of legal proceedings. Also, around where I live within a 5o-75 mile radius there used to be 14 Aprilia dealerships. Now it's down to 2 and I talked to most of the dealers who don't represent Aprilia anymore and each one has nightmare stories about Aprilia and they will never deal with them again. The place I got my bike from is basically a pump and dump operation.

As long as you don't have any issues with the bike and there is a dealer right next door that is a great dealership, I would not recommend Aprilia to anyone.

I've been looking at and drooling over the newest RC8R for about 9 months.

What do you guys think?

I'll sell you my 2010 RC8R Red Bull Edition. It's got less than 600 miles and has the Club Race Kit installed which includes a full titanium Akrapovic racing exhaust.

Little brother owns an RC8R and it's one of the best bikes I've ever ridden, well balanced, good suspension and very linear powerband.

Considered getting one for a while but it'll never be a Duc no matter what you throw at it.

Great bike loads of fun to ride and suspension is top class , a click here and a click there and it is one of the best handling bikes on track , it turns like a dream with all the HP and pulls from 1000 rpm . on a full set up inline 4 you may do quicker lap times but if it grin factor and fun to Ride its very hard to beat .

i love mine

Might get an 848 first, for track use.

i would save a little longer and buy the 1198 s or sp the 848 EVO was a big disappointment for me with fitting Termi's , euc re map and gearing its just way under powdered lack torque and over all not worth the money , i wish i never brought mine . i had it on track last monday and it will need a lot of $$$ thrown at it . its still fun as it handled ok and does everything but it should be a lot better than it is

its not even close to the KTM in any part , handling , brakes of course power

save your cash and buy it big brother

My apologies but . . . I am also considering an s1000rr BMW . . . just considering it as a track weapon

The other bike that is drop dead gorgeous is the new MV 675 serie oro

Both formidable, possible substitutes for the 1199.

I really like the sound of that 1190 RC8 with a JCE can,, what a rumble. price for the RC8 though i would say is pretty high though for what it is, I like the white 2011, if price was lower I would say yes.
Though I may still look at this option as the new Duc 1199 are sold out here at three dealerships and I like to ride something not everybody else has, hence the RSV4.

....we'll having seen the 1199 in the flesh (didn't have the WOW factor) and combined with the possible early May delivery,......

I decided to buy a tricked up 1098r Bayliss LE.

I'm afraid the wait has got to me,..and want to be riding something now and not in 3 months plus.

The Bayliss will have more than enough for my skills and the roads I ride on,...and I'll say it now, even though I love ducati's (had them for the last 17 years).....I do think the 1199 has lost some Ducati personallity,....Yes it will be a progression in terms of the way it rides...howerver (for me) not visually.
There are some very nice areas of design on the bike, but not as a cohesive visual package.

Lets not start a debate about this and I'm not trying to wind anyone up !

Just my view.

Rsv4f se aprc

Guys my current bike a 2011 Aprilia RSV4F SE APRC will be used 100% on track, why because thats what it is made for, I can't tour Europe on it and neither the wife or kids realy fit on it. But as a track tool simply Brilliant!. However the Panigale S Tric I have on order will not see the track (at least for now). I bought it because of it's innovative engineering and looks, but as a road bike with alot of laughs and can put the family on it, (one at a time), I will be keeping the Diavel with Competition Werkes Exhaust, living the dream !!
