Anybody replaced their headlamp bulbs?

My buddy has had the OEM, Sylvania Silverstars and now HIDs on his Panigale. It is no contest, the DDM Tuning 5000k HID kit blows them all away. You can not notice much difference between stock and the blue tinted halogens unless you get cheap not very bright bulbs, go the HID route.

I got both the PIAA H11 bulbs and these LED H11 bulbs
120-SMD HID Xenon White H11 H8 H9 LED Fog Light Bulbs
I tried both out and what I've learned is that that PIAA are the closest thing to the brightness of the 1199 LEDs and has a cool color spectrum but the little LED strip on the base destracts because it's a better color then the PIAAs.
The LED bulbs are the EXACT color of the LED strip on the base however no where near as bright as the PIAA bulb. It looks great during the day and night but I learned the hard way that it's not so fun diving at night with a tinted visor and the LED bulbs. Damn scary acually.
I can get my bulbs in and out in less than 5 min without disasembling the bike so I am still on the wire between the two but for now most of my riding is during the day so I have the LED bulbs in for looks and color. If I anticipate lengthly night riding then I'll swap to the PIAA for visibility.
Hope my 2 cents help.

hid's are great for light but they suck if you have any issues, i did and not going back! its not worth the headache, if i was to do again i would do Trauma's search and get the S kit lights

Either that or just go with better bulbs..I decided Hids were simply not worth it and doing the Leds is extremely expensive.... I went with the whiter Halogens ..Not saying this is the same as doing Hids/Leds but its so much easier and cheaper....

Are the LED's at least brighter than the stock bulb on the base model?? That's all I need it to do if the color matches the LED strips. Don't do tons of night riding and when I do, I live in Boston so plenty of lights on the street and highway.

The LED bulbs are a perfect color match to the LED strips. As for brighter than stock I'd say no at night however during the day it does look brighter than stock in terms of being seen. Stands out much better for day but thumbs down for night. But if your roads are well lit then you wouldnt even notice. I'm out in the sticks and often the only lights on the road are the moon light and my headlights. Maybe if you can push more juice into it or something they would be brighter. Oh well.

Could I trouble you for some pics of how each one looks? No worries if its too much of a hassle

Sure I'll try to get at least a pic up of the LED bulbs on since they're already on. If I have the time/will I'll change them to the PIAA bulbs to take a pic as well.

hid's don't fit well in the bulb housing, mine got a little loose then poped when i started to drive a little more aggressive, the silver star line bulbs will give you what you might be looking for. i have the siver star's ZXE bulb works pretty good

I have a standard Panigale and I am considering the Hid conversion..But I was wondering if anybody has tried the Super white style Halogens in their bike??? Gotta be a lot cheaper... Right???

I got Hid for Pani it's easy to install 15 minutes tops 50 bux well spent make sure you do the 35 watts works perfect

You cannot put after market LEDs on the Base Pannigale. You must purchase the ones for the S ($1700), and rewire the harness.

Go to the forum at the bottom of my signature, this one is toast :(

any one try actual LED replacement bulbs in the base?

yeah what do you do when you blow a hid bulb from wheelies in the 1199 and the fuse takes ALL your lights out then what? the hid bulb fits in, however it is not a tight fit like the regular halogen bulb it was designed for any jarring or extra movement will caus ebulb to get loose and blow. THATS what happen to me on my VT trip i had no lights 6 hours away from home. SO no more hid's in DUCATI 1199 Of SHAME

Question:

Low beam are H11 from my understanding.. How about High beams? Thx

Don't even bother, the head unit will need to come off there doesn't seem to be any other way. The high beam bulbs sit right behind the main dash panel. not much room to get from under neath.
