Anyone ever used GB racing clutch covers?

My track day is quickly approaching and I still haven’t decided on the best clutch cover option for my V2. I just want some protection in the event of a crash. It seems there isn’t much out yet for the V2 and I don’t like anything that has 959 hard etched into it. Anyone have any experience with the GB racing stuff?

I did send them an email to get clarity on what this mean:

“ This product is for Race Only as the stock motorcycle has Engine Dust Covers that would require removal, therefore these covers are unsuitable for the Stock Motorcycle.”

They’re quality. I’ve run them on several track bikes. Kyle Wyman is running them on his V4R/RS Frankenstein bike.

looks not bad from outside.
but inside around the middle you see cracks.
that's not good, because once cracked it cant absorb forces any longer.
(and it hasn't, the clutch cover was broken and leaky)

i would not say they are cracked on the inside.

it's very well possible that those are knit lines, where the molded plastic flows together at the end of the filling process.

what do the ones in the pics have to do with new ones anyways? they have been crashed before?

no, thats cracks.
? not sure what you mean. it was the first and only crash.
what i mean is:"because once cracked it cant absorb forces any longer." (during the impact). from that moment on it fails and any aditional forces go directly trough

phrasing wasn't totally clear but you mean that a crashed crash protector can't protect properly any more?
yes.

I am looking for crash protectors too. I'll check these out.

By the way, cracked protectors after impact (i.e., a crash) means they did their job correctly. They should crumple or crack when absorbing energy to avoid transferring that energy to what you are protecting. In other words, most crash protectors, including helmets are meant for only one impact - then you replace them.

Old car bumpers were solid, hard, unmovable beasts that engineers thought would make the car survive after lots of abuse (bumping into stuff), and they were right. However, the energy was transferred to the occupants and killed lots of people. That is why cars are almost throwaway after a crash, but people live. Bike protection is throwaway, but the bike lives.

I have the GB clutch cover and it fit great. Ended up passing on the alternator cover because I wasn’t sure about fitment. Please let me know if you go that route and it fit correctly. My high side last season shaved the engine cover pretty thin but luckily not through.

i do not agree.
it has to bend or deform or crumple.
if it breaks it is too brittle.

in case of a laminated helmet you have a lot of small cracks that absorb the energy.
this is a calculated and wanted behavior.
but if that helmet just break in two pieces... come on, it will never get the snell ansi ece whatever number.

I agree with you. I was being vague and didn't want to go into detail. Poor choice of words, I guess. My main point is that when protective devices absorb energy, they usually become damaged in some way so that what they are protecting does not. Yes, breaking or snapping is not a good choice of words. Sacrificial is a better way to describe these protective devices. ;)
