Anyone get their V4S to the track yet?

I'll try at this point I seriously doubt my V4S will arrive before April 14th. The Tuono is a great bike but it's not a Ducati. I have to add I doubt my wife will give me a hall pass for so many trackdays:(

Rear tire was probably under inflated at 26 psi cold. Looks like a hot tear:

According to Pirelli 2018 Fitment guide with the DOTs you should run 25/28 on the rear when it's warm... so if it was at 26 cold, it was definitely over inflated according to the specs...

I know with slicks they can be really touchy and depending on the conditions you'll really need to play with the pressures.

Over inflating should cause a cold tear tho. The wear looks like a hot tear. But yeah, need to play around with pressures and monitor them a bit closer next time out.

Very good point... till this day I always bug the tire guy at the track as switching from the forgiving q3 to pirelli slicks has been interesting to say the least...

Man. 25/28 after warmers. -3 cold. So start at ~23psi when cold. Lol, so low.

Now i am curious if i am reading the tire wear wrong. Cold tears supposed to be deep and perpendicular. Hot tears shallow and diagonal. It sure looks like a hot tear from underinflation.

Maybe this engine is just to much of a beast for Supercorsa :)

What was the ambient and track temp?

At least according to this article and the pictures I think you're reading it right...

Sure looks very similar to the hot tear... [emoji848]

@jbraslins: What are your initial impressions of the V4 at the track?

Well, you should take my comments with a grain of salt. It's been 10y since I last rode on track, and even back then I only did track days and very few novice races.

I've also never ridden a modern inline 4 liter bike, or 1098/1199/1299. My bikes back then were 999 and GSXR 750.

But, some observations (wrote this on another forum):

Bike is stupid fast, yet incredibly easy to ride. All the electronics are simply amazing.
If you turn everything off, you better know what you're doing, cause it's a freaking angry space rocket that wants to melt your face off.

I never got it out of 5th gear. Not because i ran out of room on the straights, but because i just did not have the balls to keep it pinned entire time and rev all the way to 14.5 in every gear. Will fix next time out :)

It flicks from one side to another in the esses with ease. No comparison to 999 (never rode 1098/1199/1299). Must be that counter-rotating crank. As easy if not easier than my GSXR 750 did.

Engine is a masterpiece for sure. Just picture a smoother, revvier twin. It def feels closer to a twin than it does to I4. Sound too. Yet it has so much rev range, really fun to wind it all the way up coming out of corners.

No problem pulling out of corners in taller gear, plenty of grunt. Gearing was wrong for VIR, so i found myself in few slower corners with 2nd being too short and 3rd too tall. With this engine, staying in higher gear works.

It felt comfy while i was riding it, but at the end of the day I was sore as ****. Mainly quads and forearms. Getting old suck

Oh one more thing to add. While i did notice a lot of heat coming of the bike riding on the street. I am happy to report that at least @ 66F ambient, i did not notice heat even once while @ track.

I had the same basic experience here as well... however, this thing really retains the heat! I noticed a good 30min after shutting it down, the whole tank was quite hot to the touch and not on the bottom by the exhaust, but @ the cap. Ambient temp was around 70ish degrees.

We tossed it in the trailer for a 1hr ride home, cloudy day, ambient temp still 70s and when I opened the door up on the trailer, it was a sauna in there. I hope there is a carbon tank in the works soon. That metal just holds a lot of heat it seems.

My lazy lap @ VIR.

Bike has so much more speed/power available, I am just too scared to wring it out :)

I had the opportunity to ride the V4 in Aragon two days ago and take the opportunity to post my impressions. It was my friends bike, who was friendly enough to lend it to me for 5 laps. Therefore, I didn't go too hard in order not to crash it.

Coming from my V2 1199R Superstock bike, the V4 is so much more nimble at turning, it feels like a bicycle! Also the flick from left to right is mentally fast and razor sharp. With the current suspension set up it's already pretty stable at braking. Without floating brake disks, turn in on braking is a bit harder and the bike to prone to "stand up".

The engine is a beast and the power is scary (226hp at the crank at the moment, bit over 200hp at the wheel). I have never experienced anything like it before. The way this bike pulls from 250 to 300 kph is out of this world! It just wouldn't stop accelerating! I easily reached 300kph at the end of the back straight, even though I didn't have the balls to fully open the throttle in 2nd and 3rd gear and lost quite a bit at the beginning of the straight coming out of the tight 2nd gear left corner. It's basically impossible to keep the front wheel on the ground in gears 1-3. The engine runs a lot smoother then the V2, but apart from this, sounds and feels very much like a V-twin still, but with less engine braking.

The bike was built by Barni Racing in Italy. They are currently testing in the Italian Superbike Championship (CIV). Two of their mechanics were with us on track and were dialing in the suspension and bike geometry. They tried quite a bit over the curse of three days and found a good set up at the end. Ivan Goy and Luca Confort will test/confirm the set up in Mugello this week. Also the electronics are not yet fully adjusted and reliable. The engine with the current tune (Akrapovic exhaust with standard up-map from Ducati) is too aggressive, anti-wheely control not reliably working and the quick shifter only works in lower revs when downshifting. Bit of work to do still for Ducati.

Some minor problems to be sorted out. But the bike has loads of potential! I think I'll have to get one next year. :D
