Hi everyone, I'm considering trading my 899 for a slightly used 1299 base. Has anyone here done that and could share their experiences? I don't track or race, so don't really need the extra HP, but have always lusted over the 1299.
Also, somewhat concerned with the issue of engine dying unexpectedly. is there a way to test for that? the 1299 is from a dealer and I'd have a few months of warranty, but don't want to get stuck with a problem. my 899 has been flawless.

If you e wanted one, go for it. No regrets this way. Since it's a dealers bike take it for a good long test ride. If it behaves you know it won't be a problem. If she's acting up on the test ride pass on it.

Before you leave on your test ride, for kicks tell your salesman to look up if the bike was made on Tuesday-Thursday. Tell him you don't want a Monday or Friday bike. See his reaction lol.

Do it if the bike checks out. I went from an 848 to 1199, was worried at first managing all the raging power, but the 1199 handled way better than the 848... I know it was not a 899 which is even more nimble but never the less, DO IT!

In the last 8 years I've gone from a Monster 696 to an 1199 to a Monster 1200S to a 1299S. It's taken me awhile to make up my mind, but the 1299S is the most fun and rewarding bike I've ever owned and I regret nothing.

I did 4 track days with an 899 last year, 11 with an 1299 (suitably adjusted for track) this year, the 899 is charming and fun, the 1299 is a dream machine. Compare Cesnna turbo prop with turbine LearJet or Beamer 3 series 2 liter from 1990 with M5 from now, both fun but totally different experience.

enjoy, will be fun.
i went from 848 to 1198s, then 1199s, then 1200ppmts to 1299anv. all great bikes but for the street nothing will be more fun than the PPMTS, so much easier to ride than the superbikes and just as fast on the street.

Yes I'd have agree I had a 1200 base Multi with forged wheels, sorted suspension and have to say it was a demon on street ride days. But nothing as cool as a Ducati superbike.

So I test drove the bike and it behaved beautifully. They changed the oil and fluids and seemed to have reset everything before delivering it to me. It felt really rough below 5K rpm. I took it home, inspected the oil and realized it had been over filled. Removed more than 1/2 pint of oil to get it within proper level. It is a lot better now, but still unhappy at low rpms.
Are there settings to smooth it out? Arrgh, I should've paid attention to how Sport mode was setup when I tested it or told them not to touch a thing.

Put in race mode. Don't let revs go below 5K. Enjoy!!!:)
I never use 6th gear or 5th that much as revs drop to low. Going to change gearing soon.
Doesn't like to be lugged at low rpm's

Just turning DWC down to 3 smoothed things out for me. I also installed a 14T counter sprocket as 6th is useless on the street with a 15T.
