ever crashed your bike and wrecked a ducati tank?

be prepared. unless you find a good one used, a new one goes for ~3 grand.

that thing totally makes sense.

good price also, thanks for the link

yeah price seems VERY fair - curious about fitment if anyone's put this on their bike yet. I'm ready to pull the trigger myself

If you're interested in the protection factor, Lance makes great tank protectors...they saved my tank when I low-sided at mid-ohio two weeks ago. Fairings are trashed, but the tank is in tip top shape. His screen name is kneedragger and his email is [email protected]

It appears that nobody has experience with this tank cover.
I'd be interested in fiberglass tank covers purely for their protective properties, particularly if they are designed to function as such.
While the CF cover may be nice to look at (and pricey), I'd be more interested in a utilitarian approach on par with high-quality track body work. It's only a matter of time until my track bike looks like a track bike.

Yeap, I wrecked my 14R in January this year.
That's why we have insurance.

If you're racing it and can't afford to crash it then you shouldn't be racing it. It looks awful and is pointless. Just buy a cheap spare tank from the classifieds, they do pop up and run tank sliders on the side if you're concerned.

Anyways the OP is referring to it as an aesthetic upgrade. It's a Ducati superbike, it deserves better than a tacky carbon tank cover and cheap annodised levers. It's your money your bike do what you want.

I use that. Bought the plain unpainted one, quite cheap at $100, then painted it myself with colourmatched spray paint. Wet sand and polish with buffer and it was almost OEM like. I also bothered to cover the inside with microfiber cloth to make it softer on he tank, which is covered by masking tape. Very easy affair to do, only took me less than half hour.

Crashed it in november (lowsided) on wet track. Wrecked the fairing and handlebar/rearsets, and the tank cover received scratches over the side/top parts, with a little 2cm crack on one of the side. But the real tank was immaculate.
I covered the scratches with tapes for now (haven't got around to buying new paint to repaint it) and it still looks ok. Still using it.

It adds a little (about 1 inch) girth on the tank where you hold with your thighs. Sightly noticeable, but does not interfere with handling whatsoever. 10/10 would buy again.

I've been looking around everywhere and cant find a plain, unpainted fiberglass tank cover available in the USA. Where did you get yours from? Thanks.

I put a lot of Slingshot Racing carbon pieces on my '12 S1000RR. Fit was perfect, it was a bit heavy but it looked amazing. and the prices were killer!

two years later, the resin started clouding. My vehicles all live indoors btw. No amount of polishing could fix it. the experience soured me on gloss carbon and I only do matte now.

Anyone tried out this product?

Slingshot Racing : Ducati 899/1199/1299 Panigale Carbon Fiber Fuel Tank Top Cover - $299.99

Its not a real carbon tank but a nice aesthetic piece I'd be willing to entertain. I can't seem to find any pictures of one on the actual motorcycle itself

It looks nice. Their service is great. They will do returns and refunds if you are not completely happy with their products. So, buy it and see how you like it. If not, return it. Will be a cheap experience if you don't like it.
