AR exhaust: my experience so far

The midrange drop is due to the configuration of the inserts and fuelling

Please check the new thread for graphs explaining this.

I read somewhere that the drop was due to the bend in the rear header and that the Zard and QuatD systems don't have this problem?

Here are chart pulled from the Bellissimota/Zard/QuatD web pages showing the removal of the dip: FYI, sorry about the image size. It's not me; it's a direct link to the Bellissimot web page. :)

I highly doubt this was fixed by the exhaust itself. . . My guess is that if this is the graph, that the Zard had some sort of tuning with it that produced this graph - whether it was a piggy back, changed ecu, PC-V, etc. . . This can be tuned out with proper fueling, but I think they are just taking their post exhaust with tuning and comparing it against stock exhaust without any tuning.

when at Aragon and Valencia, there was a pani with ZARD... my Termi pani brethern acknowledged that on the straigths , it just pulled away...

this is a full termi, Rapid Race, WMR filter and timing done base.

Sorry just want to clarify - this is a full Termi system on an 1199 R with Rapid Bike race module, air filter and stock ignition settings?

The engine mods of the R would have an impact on power over the Base and S models?

Those are the smoothest power curves I've seen yet. So, assuming its from the R, it requires engine mods to fill in the gap?

I was watching the development of the AR exhaust for many months and even before they had finalised the design I had decided I was going to get one when they became available. Mostly because I thought it looked the best and was a little unique too (not just another termi boy).

I was initially going to run the pipes without the Rapid Bike but decided to buy the RB Race module.

Did the install myself, took me around 5 hours cause I like to take my time.
It is well made and is clear how much time and effort has gone into getting this perfected from AR.

I wasn't too happy with the fuelling especially down low and after reading the tuning threads I realised the RB wasn't up to the task, this pipe changed the dynamic of this bike so much that It required more than the RB could provide.

A fellow forum member got me in touch with the owner of Tune Boy and I spent a whole day with him at his workshop. We did multiple runs on his dyno with the RB set up and the data had revealed why the bike was running so badly as already posted by wmcdonald in WAF's thread. Without hesitation I began to undo the 4 hour RB install (how long it took for me to get it on) and allow Tuneboy to reflash the stock ecu.

The results were very pleasing. Peak power when compared to the RB was insignificant (3hp gain) however my AF ratios are spot on right through the range and we even amended the throttle openings from factory spec to provide maximum HP throughout.

I was able to see 190HP on the dyno which I was also very happy about.

I got in touch with Rich from AR who has always been great to deal with (one of the best in my experience) and he agreed to refund my RB module less a small restocking fee which I was more than happy with... Thanks Rich!

The only slight concern I have is the HP & TQ drop in the midrange as seen in the attached pics. I'm going to spend some more time with Wayne shortly and try to get that area improved so watch this space.

I should have dyno'd with the stock cans on first though because I don't really know if it is better or worse especially given the results that WAfatboy had experienced.

What is really interesting is that I was able to compare my dyno graph against two other bikes that Wayne had run on the same dyno a few days before mine.

Here is my bike compared to the S1000RR and ZX10R
Pani is the Red line.
ZX10R is the green line obviously... :)
ZX10R and S1000RR both have STD pipes, ZX10R had been tuned by ECU
flashing with TB software, S1000RR had PCV and no other adjustments.

One graph is HP the other is Torque.
I think it is good to have these two bikes on the graph as they put they not only put the power drop into perspective but also how the Pani is superior everywhere else.

I will keep you updated after we tackle the midrange with Wayne, stay tuned!

Copiya - any news on that hole in the mid-range?

How many baffles is the pipe running? If its one is it left or right side as you sit on the bike?

Sure you must have seen my results right?

I'm hopeful that Wayne can find something when he's working on your bike.

Cheers

I may not be correct here but I ask anyway, I saw on the side of the chart it said flywheel Hp, what is the calculation for that? I've known of some shops to modify the formula in their favor. Anyway that's awesome the power you've got and congrats.

Had read in sport rider reflashed ZX-10 makes about same hp as BMW

Not yet mate, was supposed to do it last Saturday but I couldn't make it on the day.
I'm O/S all this weekend and next so it is going to be done the first weekend I'm back probably another 2 to 3 weeks.

I'm running both baffles in with my tune but we'll do a tune with one on the left then one on the right then with none.

We are pretty hopeful the 6-7k hole will be improved while still running two baffles...

Saw your results and while they are not what you hoped for I'm pretty sure we can improve a little further.

I gotta say, the sound of this has really grown on me.
Everyone that I ride past just love it, thumbs up and big grins it's definitely turning more heads now.

I pulled into a petrol station yesterday after giving it a bit of a crack and there where around 15 guys on jap bikes hanging out.... They all ran over and couldn't believe how awesome it sounded one guy had to tell me and his crew at least 5 times that this was the best bike he'd ever heard in his life.:D

I'll leave this one for Wayne, I have NFI.

Ye I agree, the sound is pretty amazing.

On that front we are going to wrap the single baffle I'm running with fibreglass over the steel wool so its all tighter, the guys reckon it will take a little of the sharpness off the sound.

Once Wayne's applied some of the things that he did for mine I think you'll see a big difference as well.

We're also going to move the baffle from the left side to the right side because they think that with a further tune they can reduce or eliminate that hole in the power curve. Who knows they may find some other improvements :)

I'm booked in for w/c 20th so should have some more results by the end of that week.

All good stuff.

We use the stainless exhaust grade packing as it outlasts other options.
We use sewn blanket packing in our cans as its lighter.
See how you get on I will be interested to hear.

Maybe you could do a side by side of AR non/AR video, with something that has a decent microphone. Record one, then the other, and at the same time? At idle reving, then a drive by - but under the same conditions so I (we) could get some idea. It is going to be difficult to totally appreciate the sound, but would like to try!

Ye and maybe I could record it in 3D too?

Sorry couldn't resist! I have a Canon 5D Mk2 & tripod with an externally mounted microphone boom that should do it justice, just missing a bloody battery for the mic unit.
