Hello from South Louisiana. New member, no Ducati yet however, I plan to travel this Friday 11 March 2022 to possibly buy my firstFi Ducati. First bike was a Honda Rebel 450 back in 1994, been riding off and on since then. Owned several bikes but, never looked at Ducati until recently. Honestly, I have not seen one in person, only on youtube and online. I hope they look as sexy in person as they do online. I'm going look at a 1299S and hopefully I come home with it. Any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome to the best Ducati forum on the internet. My advice would be to post pics of that bike when you get it!

That is a beast and it is indeed one of the most gorgeous bikes ever made. It may be a little shocking at first how different it feels than a Honda or anything else. You just have to give it some time and practice. Some love the feel and raw power some can't figure it out.
Once you get it, you'll be back here with more specific questions I'd guess and there are lot's of super experienced folks on here. The search box up in the top right is your friend btw. You can find all kinds of great threads.
Dealers tend not to negotiate too much. You prolly won't get it half off or anything like a Japanese bike.
If it's a private owner... I'd take it to a Ducati service and have them inspect it or call the Ducati service that that bike got serviced at and ask about it. If it was taken care of and all the maintenance was done on schedule, someone knows that bike inside and out. If they have no service records and that kind of thing, well maybe a pretty bad sign and a risk if it has a lot of miles. If it has very few miles and few years, get to the bottom of the story. Could be a good deal.

Thanks for the advice. It is a private owner, bike is a 2016 with 2100 miles, has been on the track also. The owner seems to be very transparent about the bike and has had more answers than I had questions, even suggested I do a VIN check. I feel comfortable with the purchase but a little nervous also. I'm not sure how much service would have been done is so few miles, I'm not familiar with Ducati at all

Wow that's very few miles indeed. Pretty sure only the initial service should be done unless it was raced. Out of warranty for sure, but kind of a new bike. I'd do whatever research I could just to do diligence. I'd want to make sure it wasn't thrown into the weeds hard and have someone look at it. Did you start it etc? Sounded amazing? Registered current year?

Here it is getting a PPI. Every flaw the owner told me about is the same the technician stated in the report. The bike has track time, owner sent video of cold start also. Tomorrow I will fly to where the bike is and view it for the first time. Owner has been extremely helpful in the whole process. It is still a bit scary for me because I am unfamiliar with Ducati.

Good thing is, a bike like that is usually loved. Generally not a squid bike. Usually mid-aged men who baby them. Usually.
Looks cherry. There have been a ton of very new V4's for sale here with almost no miles on them. People buy the dream and then can't handle them, they're not the comfortable ride they were used to, they get really hot, the area they live in isn't a place you can open it up & hit 180mph, etc etc. I've gone to look at a bunch of them and indeed the stories check out. All that I saw were cherry, they just didn't fit the first buyer. The only tragic Ducati story I've heard is actually from my best friend who bought a superbike that had lw milage but 3 OWNERS BEFORE HIM! That should have been a dead giveaway to walk-away. Indeed it was a lemon. After warranty work and a bunch of fixing, it became his legendary ride. He still has it, loves after 9 years.

Your reply makes me feel even better about the bike. One owner, middle aged, and low miles. I did take a short test ride and indeed she does get hot, quickly, I might add. She doesn't like going slow, jerky a slow speed in sport mode. Comfort, eh, I found I was on my wrist more than other bikes I owned. She sounds amazing and not at all what I was expecting. I plan to pick her up and take her home in the next two weeks. We have many good surfaced backroads here, that's where I will ride the most.
