Bad day

So I was hauling my Pani to the dealer Saturday for the first service and everything was going good. About 80 miles into my 150 mile trip I hear a thud and feel the truck shake.......... Damn strap broke and my baby fell over on the trailer!!!!!! :mad: I had just looked at it in the mirror and everything was good. I was sick to my stomach when I saw the damage. The right side fairing is busted and the upper fairing has some serious scatches on it. Got an estimate at the dealer which came to roughly $1900.00 for everything completely new. I guess it could've been worse but that's some pretty bad luck.:(
 
Damn dude i know you must have been pinching your self to see if it was just a dream. I would hate for this to happen to anyone. Look at the bright side and keep in mind it could have been much worse.

This is why I am soooo anal about using Canyon Dancer, extra heavy thick tie downs (NOT ratchet stye) crank it down hard and double tie off the straps so there is no ability to slip out or pop loose. Now if the strap BROKE that is another story man, wow! Also use the Baxley chock which almost doesnt even need tie down straps! Had this same thing happen once with my 748R and swore it would never happen again!

Really sorry to hear this with such a new gorgeous bike buddy! Hope insurance covers it though?
 
Use a wheel chalk too. Recommend the Condor, I have it and you can legitimately haul it without straps, if you went slow enough lol... Also has a quick release trailer lock so you can use it on and off the trailer in no time. Comp should cover it.

I use one on my trailer, ordering another so I can pull two bikes.

Wow also sorry to hear about your bike. It happened to me on my S4R a few years ago. Since then I always use extra tie downs in the back. If the front comes undone or breaks at least they keep the bike upright.
 
Oh FUDGE! Sorry to hear that. I would have pulled over, picked her up, look at the damage and then puked all over the side of the road.Damn the bad luck. Good thing it stayed in the trailer.
 
Insurance adjuster is gonna come this week. My deductible is 1000.00 so they'll cover the difference. Good thing about not having a lien against the bike is that they'll make the check out to me. I really only have to buy the side fairing cause the upper can be saved. It just needs a little touch up and one of my good friends is a professional painter so I'm good on the paint repair. I appreciate all the sympathy and it could've been a lot worse. I'm just happy it stayed in the trailer.
 
Bad luck indeed, I feel for you!. But as you say atleast it stayed in the trailer! Always look on the bright side!
 
and ALWAYS wrap duct tape around the ends of the hooks. if the suspension compresses enough it could cause the hook to come loose from the anchor point.

That said, since going to the pitbull trailer restraint don't worry/need to deal with that stuff anymore. It's the best system for hauling a bike hands down.

Sorry for your mishap.

It was a 150 mile ride...that would've been on two wheels for me. I would not take the chance on trailering unless it was someone else's bike!

I would make a day out of it...nice little road trip in the am to the dealer, take a loaner for a couple of hours and tool around, then take my bike back for another 150 mile sprint!'

I would've rode it but it was pissing down some heavy rain off and on all day. It had rained all week where I live. I don't want to ride my bike in the rain.
 
So the insurance finally came through with check to cover the damage and I order the parts I need, I get a call Monday from the dealership telling me there is a problem concerning my parts. When they received the parts from Ducati the side fairing was sticking through the box!! I told them if they wanted to knock some money off the price I would accept that fairing or if they didn't want to do that I wanted a new one! Jeez what else can happen ?? Oh well what can you do?!
 
i cant imagine the thoughts that must have gone through your mind.

I feel bad for you
