Balancing rear wheel.

ha, funny you ask. I recently bought a harborfreight static balancer and single sided swingarm wheel cones from Nomar (you need special cones, eBay has ducati-specific SSSA cones or you can buy generic SSSA cones from Nomar). I had a horrible time with it and couldn't balance the wheel. I think I need to upgrade the bearings on the balancer. For now, I just mounted the wheel without balancing. (track only bike)

Do you really need to balance them? My tire guy says put the red dot opposite the valve and you're good to go.

Yes you do, going 150mph at the track with slightly unbalanced wheel will get pretty bad!

Just like what oil to run or which brand tire is the best, there are differing schools of thought. Some guys say you don't have to rebalance when you just flip a used tire, others say you have to balance every time (I am in this camp).

BTW, don't you people spell tire as "tyre"????? Or have we Americanized you that much! :)

Aggressively ridden sport bikes will spin the wheel inside of the tire anyway. Most of what you are doing with the weights is balancing the wheel. IIRC, Michelin doesn't do the weight dots on their tires.

I would always choose to balance it. It definitely wouldn't hurt.

haha! on the internet is a tyre a tire? Quite a few times Ive had tires that dont need any weight and occasionally a few grams.

Having to balance a wheel pisses me off no end. You would think we would have evolved our manufacturing tech by now to not have to do this. This is not 1960!

The answer to the question is there is a special tool that clamps in the wheel hub to allow it to be set on the balancer. Then the heaviest part will spin to the bottom.

I have the Olmax Motors tire machine and balancer. Tire mounting and balancing is effortless.

Wait… “was the track only bike” part meant to be an excuse not to balance your wheels? [emoji28]

The hairspray trick seems to have kept the tyre/tire from spinning on the rim.

IMHO, if it takes more than 15 grams, I would break the bead and reposition the rubber on the rim.

I run a max2h with a billet balance adapter for the rear wheel top shelf stuff.

Is that also the tire changer on the left Mick ?
How you like it ?
I think I’m going to invest on one in the near future and was looking at the No mar cycle hill

Yes the max2h stuff is good stuff and the tire changer is super easy to use and guaranteed to not scratch wheels so worth every penny spent.

I jus saw a couple of their videos on youtube
Yes looks very well built and a bit more compact compared to the no mar.
I will reach out to them about shipping
If the shipping is nothing crazy
A package with the tire changer and wheel balance should be about the price of the entry level no mar with no wheel balance machine
