Balancing rear wheel.

@Mick1976 how reliable is the Max2H tire changer? Meaning, are there tires too big (200x60 for instance) or particularly hard race compounds (dunlop mediums for instance) where it struggles because you have to use manual force to unseat the bead and reseat? Can you do front wheels on it as well with big ass 330mm rotors without any clearance/interference issues? Is it likely to scuff up carbon wheels?

I am in the market for a tire changer and was thinking of a Derek Weaver machine for $1700. But I have been hesitating because of the space it takes up in the garage permanently. If the Max2H is reliable and can always change a tire no matter what tire, I wouldn't mind the manual effort for the upside you get in space/storage and price.

Can you share your thoughts please?

i statically balance my tires and found that to be working well.

even bought spoke weights for my husky. what a PIA though...

Yes the tire changer is fully adjustable to do all wheel/tire sizes there are no restrictions the diameter tops off at 22". I have done everything carbon, magnesium and everything up to 200 profile tires plenty more to go and best of all its a compact unit folds up and can fit inside a cabinet or drawer.

Sweet thank you. Any issues with doing front wheels with rotors mounted?

Aggressively ridden sport bikes will spin the wheel inside of the tire anyway. Most of what you are doing with the weights is balancing the wheel. IIRC, Michelin doesn't do the weight dots on their tires.

I would always choose to balance it. It definitely wouldn't hurt.

haha me too. $375 shipped to Texas. Already have a balancer and cones so I just got the tire changer itself. Evo 2.

@Mick1976 how do you mount tires on a big ass V4 rear wheel using this machine? I imagine the centering cone they send with the Max2H kit isn't big enough - did you have to buy a ducati big hub rear cone from somewhere?

EDIT: I figured out the answer. You need to buy their special SSSA adapter: Adapter Ducati / Triumph | max2h.com - Your tire changer shop

I have a nomar cone set for SSSA: Large Balancing Cone Set for Single-Sided Swingarm Wheels-BL (nomartirechanger.com) I might try that to see if that fits in the Max2H machine, but I doub't it, which means I need to order their ducati cone and have it shipped separate.

IF ANYONE IS ORDERING THE MAX2H MACHINE, MAKE SURE YOU ORDER THE SSSA CONE SET ALONG WITH THE MACHINE.

I don't use the SSSA adaptor I have always used a Motion SBK billet adaptor for doing the rear wheel also use it when sticking the wheel onto the high point balancer. Don't think they been available for quite some time but Hdesa makes something similar definitely a must have.

I have the Max2H although only recently got my V4 so have not bought any adapter to try it. The max2h is nice in theory but for fresh tires or tires with a stiff carcass like bridgestones for example, you'll be there for a very long time, no matter how much lube you use. Its nice and all when they use a really well cooked tire in the video and it takes a few minutes, but real life to me has proven otherwise. Perhaps its because I like to run the bridgestones.

I have mounted multiple sets of brand new Pirelli and Dunlop’s using that machine. It’s literally a few minutes start to finish. Zero issues

Ok folks here's an update. Max2h Evo 2 came in and I gave it a whirl - changed two tires today. Here are my impressions from a tire changing noobie.

1. Instructions suck and are in German. But assembly is self explanatory by just looking at the photo on the box.
2. Plenty of good youtube videos that show you how to use it.
3. No idea how it will hold up but at least initially, out of the box, the build quality seems pretty good. Everything fits well and machining seems good.
4. Pro tip - put your old tire/wheel as well as new tire on warmers for 20 minutes on high setting. When the pirellis are warm they come off/go on like butter. Took me literally 6 minutes to dismount an old tire and mount a new one my second time doing it.
5. Use plenty of lube.
6. A motion pro bead buddy worked great when reseating the top bead of new tire
7. I used my motion pro dirt bike tire spoon, I imagine any decent tire spoon would work fine.

I need to order the Ducati SSSA adapter. It took over 3 weeks for the machine to arrive but whatever.

I'm sold. So glad I don't have to depend on tire shops anymore. Such a time saver to be able to mount my own tires.

Ok max2h is sold out of the SSSA centering cone. Says not available and no eta. So I jerry rigged my own. Had a spare nomar cone laying around and drilled it out to fit over the max2h shaft. I will hunt for the Motion SBK adapter, but till then, this seems to work.
