Bar end removal

Auto zone or pep boys sells a three pack of very large Allen keys- 10,12 and 14mm for $12.99. Then work on any 3/8" wrench. Mine came right off.

is taking the handlebar itself off of the bike the best way to remove the bar end? if an impact driver or a ton of force is needed to dislodge the bar end, would that end up rotating the handlebar out of position, or are the two screws clamping the handlebar onto the forkleg strong enough to keep the handlebar from rotating?

Some people have had more trouble than others... Mine came right off with approximately.75 man-torque of force... Others have used breaker bars and they still don't pop off...

I used a T60 that I bought from Sears. The throttle side bar actually started to spin in the clip on. After I tightened up the bar in the clip on the bar end came out pretty easily. The other side I didn't have any problems with.

The right tool for the job is actually a triple square. They're also called XZN sockets. A 12mm hex or T60 can work depending on how tight your bar ends are. I bought a complete set of metric XZN's and guess what? It's a 15mm on the bar end and all the sets I see go up in even numbers in that size range. DucAudi really went out of their way to make sure it's a PITA to get these off! I ended up going to Duc Westlake and they used a 12mm hex to pop it off, but not before the bars started rotating in the mounts. There was a lot of grey threadlocker on mine. The tech said Snap-On has a part number for the XZN socket, but it's over fifty bucks, so he just runs the 12mm hex like some others here. Good times!

Looks like I have to take mine to the dealer for it to be removed, I just cannot remove it for the life of me. Wasted money on buying the right tools but no chance removing the bloody bar end.

Bought a nice Rizoma proguard thing to replace it.
