Bautista wild card this weekend... expectations?

It's a massive learning curve for him, very different electronic, different tyre's, obviously a very different bike, MotoGP use a 4.0 front rim with much wider tyres i think he will improve over the weekend but won't bother the top 15 IMO, nothing against his ability just a lot to take in over a couple of practice sessions.
 
It would have been impressive if he’d even managed mid-field. Different tyres, different bike and against exceptional riders who have experience riding these bikes at least for all of this season. Not to mention that there’s no prize for taking stupid risks as he’s not even in this competition.
 
Well my prediction aged like milk, but whats really interesting is how technical these bike are to ride now with shapeshifters and aero. I really though Bautista would be mid pack at worst but the learning curve is steep. Be interesting if he gets on the move during the race.
 
All the shitting on aero in the modern GP era, I take more issue with all the ride height shapeshifter nonsense. The added lever and switch fuckery. I'd like to see a rule change to eliminate that but open tire manufacturing to more than a sole source.

IDK if he suffered a mechanical problem, but MM managed to do what he does best on a Honda, and still be ahead.

Me too. IMO it shows that these new GP bikes are more about the engineers than the riders. Races are now won and lost in the pit rather the track. I’d say a SBK is a more pure version of the sport and the racing reflects it. GP is going the way of F1 and that’s not a good thing.

whats so pure in SBK ? same ....... sauce turned 90 degrees to the right.

Only 2 bikes (Ducati/Yamaha) can do something, rest is just useless payload on the grid.
 
the thing is we don't know whether he was just there to be testing something new tech maybe/ Doing his bit for the company .... ducati have nothing to benefit by putting another ducati up in the top 5/6 places..... which his Misano times suggest he was capable of.

Hey maybe Ducati will offer up the ride height fuckery stuff on the next R. I’d love to see how it all works. I’m guessing it’s hydro/mechanucal

I would guess Ducati doesn't know either. Big companies like to test and see what possibilities present themselves.
I also guess when you see the celebrations for Bastionini in the paddock at that level, it's of relief as well as joy because heads are always subject to the chopping block.
After you've put so much into a thing, usually you don't want that. A win was a very big deal for him. IMHO, He's going to be a real title contender next year if they all stay healthy. He's in the 'nothing to loose camp.'
 
It was nice to see him back after the potential he showed in 2022.

2024 should be a good battle if that form is continued and the other riders keep their current form going, plus it will be interesting to see how MM does on a Ducati as his brother seemed to have finally got a grip on it. I can imagine the Marquez brothers at lunch - "so, any tips for me for this new bike?"... "Nope"...). 🤣
